Group Financial Controller
Location: Birmingham
Hybrid: 1 day from home
Salary: £75,000 – £90,000 + Bens
You might not be actively looking for a new role. But if you’re an experienced Financial Controller who would move for the right level of ownership, complexity and opportunity to make an impact, this is worth seriously considering.
SF Partners is working with an established, multi-entity business based in Birmingham to recruit a Group Financial Controller. Our client is continuing to grow and evolve through acquisition, so now is the perfect time to be joining!
This isn’t simply a role focused on producing the numbers!
You’ll take ownership of financial control across the Group, lead and develop a multi-site finance team and play a central role in integrating acquired businesses, strengthening the control environment and improving how finance operates across the organisation.
What will you actually own?:
Reporting to the Director of Group Finance you’ll have four direct reports across two locations and a broad Group remit covering:
- Financial control and management reporting across multiple Group entities
- Full ownership of the Group balance sheet and control environment
- Finance integration of acquired businesses – aligning systems, processes and controls
- Leadership and development of a multi-site finance team
- Audit readiness, VAT, tax and statutory compliance
- Cash flow forecasting, banking and treasury
- Intercompany accounting and foreign exchange
- Support across budgeting and forecasting
- Commercial interaction around performance and stock reporting
- Working alongside FP&A to drive automation, standardisation and process improvement
It’s a role where you’ll need to be comfortable operating at different levels – challenging the numbers and getting into the detail when required, while also developing people, improving processes and influencing how finance operates across the wider Group.
Who are we looking to speak with?:
- You’ll be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Significant experience as a Financial Controller, Group Financial Controller or in a comparable senior finance leadership role.
- Experience within a multi-entity Group environment (preferable)
- Strong financial control, balance sheet and technical accounting capability
- Experience integrating acquisitions or newly acquired businesses
- A track record of improving processes, controls and reporting
- Leadership and development of finance teams
- Strong ERP and financial reporting systems experience
- Confidence working with commercial, operational and senior stakeholders
- A genuinely hands-on approach – someone equally comfortable leading the function and getting into the detail
Why might this be worth a move?:
You’ll get the breadth and influence. You’ll also inherit meaningful Group-level responsibility, but you’ll also be a key person in driving continuous improvements. With multiple entities, acquired businesses to integrate and opportunities to further strengthen and automate finance processes, you’ll have the scope to shape the function rather than simply maintain it.
It offers the opportunity to combine the technical foundations of a senior controllership role with people leadership, acquisition integration and finance transformation – with enough complexity to keep the role interesting.
Not actively looking? That’s absolutely fine. If the scope sounds interesting and you’d like to understand more before deciding whether it’s worth exploring, get in touch for a confidential conversation.
