Group Transactional Accountant

Starting Point Recruitment

Group Transactional Accountant
£35,000+ DOE | Full Time | Permanent
Birmingham | Minimum one day per week in Walsall

Ready to take ownership of the numbers behind a growing group of businesses?

Starting Point Recruitment and the wider One Thousand Trades Group are looking for an experienced Group Transactional Accountant to join our finance function.

Reporting directly to the Group CFO, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day transactional finance activity across multiple Group businesses, ensuring our financial records are accurate, reconciled and delivered on time.
But this isn't a role where you'll simply process transactions.

You'll be involved in management accounts, payroll, forecasting, cashflow and financial reporting, giving you the opportunity to develop a much broader understanding of commercial finance while working directly alongside the Group CFO.

It's an ideal opportunity for someone who has built a strong foundation in transactional accounting and is ready to take greater ownership and progress their finance career.

What You'll Be Doing
You'll take responsibility for the day-to-day finance operation across the Group, including:
  • Managing Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger and General Ledger
  • Completing Bank, Ledger, Petty Cash, Stock and Balance Sheet reconciliations
  • Managing weekly temporary worker payroll and monthly salaried payroll
  • Supporting pensions, HMRC submissions and payroll reconciliations
  • Preparing journals, accruals, prepayments and month-end adjustments
  • Preparing monthly Management Accounts across Group companies
  • Producing P&L, balance sheet, cashflow and variance reporting
  • Preparing payroll, cashflow, P&L and contract-specific forecasts
  • Supporting VAT returns, year-end accounts and external audit requirements
  • Managing operational procurement and supplier administration
  • Maintaining strong financial controls across the Group
  • Working with the Group CFO to improve processes, reporting and financial efficiency
What We're Looking For
You'll already have solid hands-on accounting experience and be comfortable taking responsibility for getting the numbers right.

Ideally, you'll bring an AAT Level 4 qualification or a strong Qualified by Experience (QBE) background, together with around five years' experience within finance, accounting or a similar role.

You'll need strong working knowledge of ledgers and reconciliations, experience producing Management Accounts, practical payroll experience and confidence using Excel and accounting/payroll systems.

Experience within recruitment, professional services, temporary worker payroll or a multi-company environment would be particularly useful, although it's not essential.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is accurate, dependable and proactive. Someone who doesn't just identify a discrepancy but wants to understand why it's there and get it resolved.

Where could this role take you?
That's one of the things that makes this opportunity different.

You'll work directly with an experienced Group CFO, gaining exposure beyond transactional accounting into management reporting, forecasting, commercial decision-making and wider Group finance.

For someone with the right ability and ambition, there is genuine scope to develop as the Group grows.

Strong transactional foundations. Broader commercial exposure. A real opportunity to progress.

If that sounds like the next step you're looking for, we'd like to hear from you.
