British Mica is a 125 year old engineering business based in Bedford offering a complete service in the supply of most types of engineering and insulating plastics. Machining, profiling, presswork, fabricating and polishing are all carried out to a high standard.

Overall responsibility:

Responsible for producing laminated components made from glass reinforced plastic (GRP) using hand lay and RTM methods in accordance to specifications and time allocations.

Main Duties:

• Trimming and Finishing GRP Products
• Prepare moulds and work surfaces for GRP laminating
• Produce GRP components using hand lay and RTM methods
• Working to a weekly workload plan
• Maintain clear positive communication with the Lamination Supervisor.
• Perform other non-core duties as required subject only to health/safety and training constraints.
• Perform duties in accordance with the company ISO 9001 quality management system
• Mould repairs

Working Hours:

Monday – Friday 07.00 am-15.00 pm. 12.30-13.00 lunch

The Candidate

• The candidate will need to be robust, structured and detail orientated with an efficient operative mindset getting things done
• The role needs someone who has a keen eye for detail, who is diligent, who can follow procedures and who works to achieve detailed daily and weekly targets
• The candidate needs to be willing to work as a team and support all other departments as and when required

Job specific requirements:

• Excellent understanding of Glass Fibre (GRP) Lamination processes and techniques
• Able to follow the correct ratios of resins, hardeners, catalysts, and curing times
• Good communication and interpersonal skills

Job Types: Full-time or Part-time , Permanent

Pay: £23,000.00-£30,000.00 per year (depending on experience)
