Elevation Recruitment Group's Skilled Shop Floor Team are working with a well-established precision engineering business supplying the medical and aerospace sectors to recruit an experienced Hand Forge Operative

Job Title: Hand Forge Operative
Salary: £14.43ph - £16.09
Job Type: Permanent 
Hours: Monday - Friday. 2 shifts 

Monday – Thursday

  • Mornings: 6:00am – 2:00pm
  • Afternoons: 2:00pm – 10:00pm

Early finish on Fridays

  • Morning: 6:00am – 12:00pm
  • Afternoon: 12:00pm – 6:00pm

The Hand Forge Operative will safely set up, control, and operate forging presses through dummy, intermediate, and finish blows, and to operate and interface with both gas-fired and electric furnaces to heat billets and components to specified forging temperatures, ensuring dimensional accuracy and production output are achieved in compliance with quality standards, health and safety requirements, and production targets.

Duties and responsibilities of the Hand Forge Operative include:

  • Operate hand forging equipment safely using foot-pedal controls and safe working practices
  • Handle and position heated components accurately throughout the forging process.
  • Produce high-quality forged components to customer specifications and internal standards.
  • Perform visual inspections, identify non-conforming parts and report production issues promptly.
  • Follow job cards, engineering drawings, SOPs and work instructions while maintaining accurate records.
  • Support production targets through equipment checks, continuous improvement activities and excellent housekeeping standards.

We are looking for Hand Forge Operators / Operatives with the following: 

  • Previous experience in forging, manufacturing or a heavy engineering environment is desirable.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to operate foot-pedal controls while safely handling and positioning components.
  • Comfortable working with hot materials and in a physically demanding environment.
  • Ability to follow job cards, work instructions and safe operating procedures.
  • Good awareness of workplace health and safety.
  • Ability to identify visual defects and report quality concerns.
  • Reliable, punctual and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • A positive attitude towards training, problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • Forklift, crane or manual-handling experience would be beneficial, although training can be provided.
