An experienced Handyman, Handyperson or Area Maintenance Technician is required to cover a portfolio of supermarket stores across South Birmingham, Warwickshire and the surrounding areas.
This is a mobile building maintenance role involving a varied mix of plumbing repairs, joinery, painting and decorating, flooring, roofing and general fabric maintenance. You will work across several retail sites, completing planned maintenance and responding to day-to-day repair requests.
The role would suit somebody with experience as a Handyman, Fabric Technician, Building Maintenance Technician or Multi-Skilled Maintenance Operative. You should be comfortable working independently, managing a mobile workload and completing a broad range of practical repairs.
The Role
You will be responsible for keeping supermarket buildings and surrounding areas safe, presentable and in good working order.
The work is varied and includes internal and external maintenance. One job could involve repairing a leaking tap or replacing damaged floor tiles, while the next may involve minor roof repairs, decorating or dealing with a blocked sink.
You will receive jobs through a helpdesk and PDA system, assess the work required and complete repairs within the agreed timescales. Larger or more technical jobs will be escalated or completed with support from other engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out planned and reactive building maintenance across supermarket stores
- Completing basic plumbing repairs, including leaking taps, washers, toilets, sinks and urinals
- Clearing minor blockages in sinks, toilets, urinals and drainage systems
- Completing minor joinery and carpentry repairs
- Repairing or replacing damaged vinyl, ceramic and floor tiles
- Carrying out minor painting and decorating work
- Completing basic roof repairs, including damaged roof tiles and minor leaks
- Clearing gutters, gullies and accessible drainage points
- Carrying out minor brickwork, wall and building fabric repairs
- Completing basic repairs around car parks, yards and external areas
- Inspecting roller shutters and reporting or assisting with minor defects
- Supporting other maintenance technicians with larger repair jobs
- Responding to jobs raised by the maintenance helpdesk
- Completing PPM and reactive maintenance paperwork accurately
- Updating job progress and completion information using a PDA
- Ensuring tools, equipment and the company vehicle are kept in good condition
- Working safely in live retail environments with customers and store employees present
The position does not require you to be a qualified electrician or mechanical engineer. The focus is general building fabric maintenance, minor plumbing and practical repair work.

- Previous experience as a Handyman, Handyperson, Fabric Technician, Maintenance Operative or Building Maintenance Technician
- Practical experience completing basic plumbing and general building repairs
