Contract: Temp to Perm
Initial Assignment: Monday 13th July 2026 to Sunday 4th October 2026
Hours: Monday to Friday, 12:00 - 20:00, with a 30-minute break
Pay Rate: £16.92 - £19.48 per hour PAYE, depending on experience

Our esteemed client is currently looking for a Multi-Skilled Engineer / Handyman to support the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance across a large healthcare estate in Birmingham.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced maintenance professional with a strong mechanical, electrical, plumbing or building services background to join a busy facilities management environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance, testing, breakdown repairs and general maintenance duties, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with contractual and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs and breakdown maintenance across the estate.
  • Support the safe and effective operation of building services, plant and equipment.
  • Work across a range of healthcare environments, including acute hospital areas, mental health units and retained estate areas as required.
  • Ensure all maintenance records are completed accurately using CAFM systems and other digital management tools.
  • Interpret and work from instructions, drawings and specifications with minimal supervision.
  • Carry out works in line with current regulations, codes of practice, Health & Safety legislation, CDM regulations and relevant healthcare technical guidance.
  • Maintain workshops, tools, equipment and working areas in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
  • Ensure response and rectification times are met, with repairs completed diligently and without unnecessary delay.
  • Take immediate corrective action in emergency situations to reduce risk to people, property and service provision.
  • Support condition surveys, lifecycle planning and accurate recording of plant and equipment information.
  • Undertake any reasonable duties required to maintain services across the estate.

About You

The ideal candidate will have a strong multi-skilled maintenance background and be confident working in a busy facilities or estates environment. Previous experience within healthcare, hospital estates, PFI or facilities management would be highly advantageous.

Essential Requirements

  • Indentured apprenticeship or equivalent trade training.
  • Relevant trade qualifications, such as City & Guilds or equivalent.
  • Experience within mechanical, electrical, plumbing, building services or general maintenance.
  • Ability to work from drawings, technical instructions and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks effectively.
  • Good communication skills and a proactive approach to maintenance.

Relevant Qualifications May Include

  • City & Guilds Mechanical Engineering Level 2 or 3.
  • City & Guilds Plumbing / Pipefitting Level 2 or 3.
  • Electrical Installation qualifications such as City & Guilds 236, 2360, 2330 or 2357.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
  • Testing and Inspection qualifications such as City & Guilds 2394 / 2395.

Desirable Experience / Qualifications

  • Healthcare or healthcare PFI experience.
  • ONC, HNC or HND in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • HTM experience or Authorised Person status in areas such as LV, HV, Medical Gas, Ventilation or Mechanical Systems.
  • Confined Spaces, IPAF, IOSH, NEBOSH or IWFM certification.
  • Experience working within critical environments such as hospitals, theatres, ITU, A&E or similar.

Additional Information

  • This role may involve working in sensitive healthcare environments, including clinical areas, theatres, mortuary areas and other specialist departments. Full training and site procedures will be provided where required.
