HEAD OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

About the Role and Key ResponsibilitiesTailorEDucation is seeking an ambitious and experienced Head of Computer Science to join a secondary school in Tonbridge from 1 September 2026 to 31 December 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate Computer Science specialist to lead and develop the department, driving high standards of teaching and learning whilst inspiring students to achieve outstanding outcomes across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
The successful candidate will combine strong classroom practice with effective leadership skills and will be responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day management of the Computer Science department.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing the Computer Science department across KS3, KS4 and KS5
- Teaching Computer Science up to A-Level
- Developing and implementing an engaging and ambitious Computer Science curriculum
- Monitoring student progress and implementing strategies to raise attainment
- Leading curriculum planning, assessment and quality assurance within the department
- Managing departmental resources and budgets effectively
- Supporting, coaching and developing teaching staff within the department
- Analysing performance data to drive continuous improvement
- Ensuring high-quality teaching, learning and assessment practices
- Completing planning, marking and reporting responsibilities in line with school policies
- Promoting Computer Science and digital learning throughout the school
- Contributing to the wider leadership and strategic priorities of the school

The Ideal Candidate ExperienceThe ideal candidate will have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
- Proven experience teaching Computer Science within UK secondary schools
- The ability to teach Computer Science across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5
- Previous middle leadership experience, ideally as Head of Department, Second in Department or Curriculum Lead
- A strong track record of improving student outcomes
- Experience of curriculum development, assessment and departmental leadership
- Excellent organisational, communication and leadership skills
- Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
