The opportunity
- As Head of Construction and Enabling UK CAPEX Projects, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for all on-site construction delivery across a portfolio of high-value EPC projects within a live refinery environment.
- This is a pivotal leadership position, with end-to-end accountability for construction execution from enabling works and site readiness through to commissioning and handover.
- You will lead complex, multi-contractor construction activities across civil, mechanical and electrical & instrumentation disciplines, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, to specification and in line with programme commitments.
- Working in a challenging brownfield environment, you will be central to managing interfaces, sequencing activities and controlling the risks associated with simultaneous operations (SIMOPS). You will also act as a key interface with regulatory bodies, including the HSE and relevant authorities, during inspections, audits and project assurance activities.
- When required, you will deputise for the Head of UK Project Delivery, providing senior leadership and continuity across the wider project delivery function.
What you'll be responsible for
- Provide visible, strategic leadership across multi-disciplinary construction activities and multiple project sites.
- Lead contractor performance, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, programme and delivery.
- Drive construction commercial performance, including change control, claims management and alignment with contract strategy.
- Oversee enabling works and ensure sites are fully prepared for safe and efficient construction execution.
- Maintain accountability for compliance with CDM 2015, COMAH and UK HSE requirements.
- Proactively identify and resolve complex construction issues, risks and project interfaces, including SIMOPS.
- Ensure robust temporary works governance throughout project delivery.
- Lead construction input into commissioning and support a safe, efficient transition into operations.
- Build strong relationships with project teams, contractors, operational stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
About you
- You'll be an experienced construction leader who thrives in complex industrial environments and has a proven track record of delivering major EPC projects in live UK operating sites.
- You will bring the credibility to lead from the front, challenge constructively and influence decisions at every level. You understand that successful construction delivery is about more than technical execution it's about creating a culture where people work safely, contractors perform effectively and complex projects maintain momentum.
- You'll combine strong technical construction expertise with commercial awareness, sound judgement and a practical approach to problem-solving.
You'll bring
- Extensive experience leading EPC construction delivery on large-scale industrial or energy projects.
- Strong practical knowledge of COMAH, CDM 2015 and UK construction standards.
- A proven track record of managing multiple contractors, disciplines and complex site interfaces.
- Significant experience delivering projects in brownfield or operational environments.
- Strong leadership of construction safety, audits and QA/QC processes, including ITPs, inspections and punch-list management.
- Commercial awareness, including experience managing construction budgets, change and contractor performance.
- The ability to operate confidently under pressure and make sound decisions where safety, cost, quality and schedule must be balanced.
- Experience leading teams through critical delivery phases such as turnarounds, commissioning and handover.
