Following nationalisation, British Steel is embarking on a significant transformation journey with a clear ambition to improve performance, build capability and secure long-term success. To support this, we are creating a new Continuous Improvement function and are seeking an exceptional leader to build and embed a world-class Continuous Improvement and operational excellence capability across the business.

This is far more than a traditional CI role. It is an opportunity to shape strategy, build a high-performing team and influence cultural change across one of the UK's most important industrial organisations.

What you need to know about the role

As Head of Continuous Improvement, you will lead the development and deployment of British Steel's improvement strategy, driving measurable improvements in safety, quality, productivity, reliability and cost performance.

Working across manufacturing, engineering, supply chain and support functions, you will embed Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, develop internal capability, and create a culture where continuous improvement becomes part of everyday work.

You'll work closely with senior leaders to identify opportunities, solve complex challenges and deliver sustainable business results.

What we need to know about you

We're looking for a proven Continuous Improvement leader with: 

• Significant Lean, Six Sigma or Operational Excellence experience in a complex manufacturing or industrial environment.
• A track record of delivering operational, financial and cultural transformation.
• Lean Six Sigma Black Belt qualification, or equivalent experience.
• Strong leadership, coaching and influencing skills.
• The credibility to engage effectively from the shop floor to the executive team.
