Job title: Head of Delivery

This is a rare opportunity to take a senior leadership role on one of the most technically challenging rail infrastructure programmes in Europe, leading the delivery of the Euston tunnels section of HS2.

The wider programme is valued at approximately £10.5bn, with this role taking responsibility for a circa £3.75bn package of tunnelling, shafts, headhouses and major structural works between Old Oak Common and Euston.

A key element of the programme includes the construction of an exceptionally complex cavern beneath the operational West Coast Main Line, alongside extensive TBM tunnelling, sprayed concrete lining works, major utilities and associated civil engineering.

The project is currently progressing through the design and delivery phases and is expected to continue through to approximately 2035.

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering.
  • Significant experience delivering major railway infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience working on operational railway environments.
  • Strong understanding of complex civil engineering and structural works.
  • Experience of major tunnelling projects, with knowledge of TBM tunnelling and SCL / sprayed concrete lining.
  • Experience delivering projects valued in the hundreds of millions, ideally £700m+, with £1bn+ project exposure particularly desirable.
  • Strong NEC contract experience, ideally NEC Option C and/or management contract environments.
  • Proven experience running major projects rather than solely working within programme sponsorship or governance functions.
  • Strong commercial and financial awareness, with confidence managing budgets, forecasts, metrics and KPIs.
  • Experience working with principal contractors, either from a client-side or contractor background.
  • Strong leadership experience within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills across complex and high-profile environments.
  • A demonstrable commitment to health, safety and wellbeing.

Desirable:

  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Previous experience as a Project Director, Deputy Project Director, Programme Manager, Head of Delivery or equivalent.
  • Experience delivering £1bn+ infrastructure programmes.
  • Previous experience on major UK rail programmes or international mega-projects.
  • Experience managing significant utility interfaces.
  • Experience working within highly regulated, safety-critical organisations.
