The role
This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a senior role at the heart of an independent school.
As Head of Finance and Compliance, you will work closely with the Headteacher and Directors to keep the school running smoothly, safely and sustainably. You will lead on finance, compliance, risk and governance, helping to make sure the school is well managed and able to keep providing the best possible environment for pupils, staff and families.
This role would suit someone who is calm, organised and confident advising senior leaders.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Develop and manage the school’s financial strategy
- Prepare budgets, forecasts and management accounts
- Monitor income, expenditure and cash flow
- Provide clear financial reports and advice to the Headteacher and Governors
- Oversee payroll, pensions and employee benefits
- Manage relationships with banks, auditors and external advisers
- Put strong financial controls in place
- Lead on compliance across health and safety, safeguarding, GDPR and employment law
- Keep policies and procedures up to date
- Identify and manage financial, legal and operational risks
- Support Directing Body and Finance Committee meetings
- Manage supplier contracts and purchasing activity
- Support facilities planning and estates-related investment

The person
You will be a qualified accountant, such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent, with strong financial management experience.
You will also bring:
- Excellent budgeting, forecasting and reporting skills
- Knowledge of compliance requirements within schools
- Clear and confident communication skills
- Good judgement and strong attention to detail
- A professional, approachable and collaborative style
- Experience in an independent school, education setting, school systems or charity-related finance would be an advantage.
