Hays Senior Finance are delighted to be partnering with a values-led charity / not-for-profit organisation in the Teesside area to recruit a Head of Finance on a permanent basis. This is a growing and increasingly complex organisation with a clear social purpose, multiple income streams and a strong focus on ensuring resources are managed carefully, sustainably and with maximum impact.As the organisation continues to evolve, this appointment will play a key role in strengthening the finance function and providing the insight, challenge and leadership needed to support future decision-making.
Your new role
Reporting to the Chief Executive and working closely with the senior leadership team, directors and trustees, you will lead the finance function and provide high-quality financial management, reporting and strategic insight across the organisation.You will be responsible for budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, controls, governance and reporting, while also helping non-finance colleagues understand the financial implications of their decisions.This is a broad and influential role where you will look beyond the numbers to understand what is driving performance, identify risks and opportunities, model scenarios and make clear recommendations to support effective decision-making.A key part of the role will involve working with operational leaders to understand service performance, resource utilisation, staffing, demand, capacity and cost, ensuring that resources are used effectively and aligned to organisational priorities.
What you'll need to succeed
The successful candidate will be an experienced senior finance professional with strong technical finance capability, excellent leadership skills and the ability to operate at both strategic and operational level.You will bring:

  1. Strong experience across financial management, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, controls and governance.
  2. The ability to analyse financial and operational information and identify the key drivers behind performance.
  3. Confidence in modelling scenarios, evaluating options and explaining financial implications, risks and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  4. Excellent business partnering skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and provide constructive challenge to budget holders and senior leaders.
  5. Experience of leading, managing and developing a finance team.
  6. A proactive approach to improving finance processes, systems and ways of working.
  7. The ability to balance competing priorities while maintaining accuracy, control and good governance.
  8. An understanding of, or genuine interest in, the charity / not-for-profit sector and the importance of careful stewardship of resources.

What you'll get in return
