Head of Fire Safety
Principal People Recruitment
Head of Fire Safety
London | Multi-Site | Hybrid Working
We're delighted to be partnering with a prestigious Higher Education institution to recruit an experienced Head of Fire Safety.
Reporting to the Director of Health & Safety, you'll lead the fire safety function across a large and diverse estate, providing strategic leadership, technical expertise and assurance that the organisation continues to meet its statutory fire safety obligations.
This is a rare opportunity to join an organisation where fire safety is already well established. Rather than building the function from the ground up, you'll inherit a capable team, mature fire safety systems and a positive safety culture, with the backing of senior leadership to drive continuous improvement.
The estate is varied and complex, comprising historic buildings, modern developments and Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs), alongside an exciting programme of refurbishment and new-build projects, making this a technically challenging and rewarding leadership role.
The Role
As Head of Fire Safety, you will:
- Lead and continually develop the organisation's Fire Safety Management System and Fire Safety Strategy.
- Oversee the Fire Risk Assessment programme, ensuring robust governance and compliance.
- Act as the organisation's technical expert on all fire safety matters.
- Provide strategic advice to senior leaders, project teams and key stakeholders.
- Support major capital and refurbishment projects from a fire safety perspective.
- Build strong relationships with enforcing authorities and external partners.
- Lead, mentor and develop a dedicated Fire Safety team while promoting a proactive fire safety culture across the organisation.
About the Head of Fire Safety
- Experience leading fire safety across a large, complex or multi-site estate.
- Strong working knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, Fire Safety Act and Building Safety Act.
- Experience managing Fire Risk Assessment programmes and delivering strategic fire safety advice.
- A collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- A recognised fire safety qualification together with relevant professional membership (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience managing, mentoring and developing technical fire safety teams.
What's in it for you?
- You'll receive 34 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, along with 2 additional paid volunteering days each year, and be enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). The organisation also offers flexible and hybrid working, sector-leading family leave and a range of private healthcare benefits.
- Your wellbeing is supported through an Employee Assistance Programme, providing confidential wellbeing, financial and legal advice, while continued investment in your professional development ensures you'll have access to ongoing learning and career progression opportunities.
- Additional benefits include interest-free loans and a wide range of employee discounts, including gym memberships, retail and lifestyle brands, food and drink, nursery fees and eye care.
