Head of Global Operations at Imagine Executive Solutions, Birch

THE ROLE

This is a senior, genuinely hands on role, based on site in Heywood every day. You will lead the Global operation's team of five and work alongside the current Operations Manager, an excellent operator, supporting and developing him while bringing the people leadership the team needs.

Just as important is what you bring from outside. Ideally suited to someone with an established network of European suppliers and customers who knows who to call for quotes, routes and support in each of the main countries, and who can help the business be more creative and more competitive with the solutions it offers. You will grow existing accounts, maximise opportunities and help win new contracts. For the right person there is a potential route to Global Operations Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

● Lead the team. Manage, motivate and develop a team of five, setting clear standards and being firm when needed while earning the team's respect.

● Support the Operations Manager. Work hand in hand with the current Operations Manager, strengthening his management and freeing him to do what he does best.

● Run a tight operation. Stay hands on day to day across European road freight, full loads, part loads and groupage, so every movement is delivered on time and to standard.

● Build and use the network. Bring and develop haulier, agent and supplier relationships across Europe and beyond, knowing who to approach for quotes, routes and support in each key market.

● Make Us more competitive. Design creative, cost effective solutions that win work and protect margin.

● Grow the business. Develop existing accounts, spot and maximise opportunities, and win new contracts alongside the commercial team.

● Shape the future. Help set the direction of the Global operation as it grows, with a route to Global Operations Director.

ABOUT YOU

● Extensive freight forwarding experience, particularly European road freight.

● A strong people manager who can be firm and fair, and win a team's respect.

● A solid understanding of the European network, with an established list of supplier and customer contacts.

● Commercially astute, able to grow accounts, price competitively and win new business.

● Creative and solutions focused, comfortable putting together routes and options others would not think of.

● Happy being hands on and on site every day, leading from the front.

● A working knowledge of customs processes for European freight would be a real advantage.

WHAT IS ON OFFER

● A base salary of £50,000 to £60,000.
