The Vacancy

Chime Housing are looking for an experienced and strategic Head of Health and Safety to lead our organisation-wide health, safety and wellbeing agenda. Reporting to the Director of Assurance and Compliance, this is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring Chime Housing continues to provide safe homes, safe workplaces and healthy communities. You'll act as our lead competent person, providing expert advice to senior leaders and the Board while driving a positive culture of safety, wellbeing and continuous improvement across all areas of the business.

Role purpose

To lead and provide strategic direction for health, safety and wellbeing across Chime Housing, ensuring compliance with statutory responsibilities and promoting a positive safety culture for colleagues, customers, contractors and visitors. The role provides organisational assurance that health, safety and wellbeing risks are effectively identified, managed and monitored across all activities.

What’s the role?

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead the develpment and delivery of Chime Housing's Health, Safety and Wellbeing Strategy.
  • Act as the organisation's lead competent person and trusted adviser to the Executive Team, Board and senior leaders.
  • Provide strategic oversight of health and safety arrangements across housing management, repairs, maintenance, development and customer-facing services.
  • Lead the investigating of significant incidents, ensuring lessons learned are embedded and improvements implemented.
  • Oversee wellbeing initiatives and ccupational health arrangements to support colleague engagement and resilience.
  • Develp and deliver health and safety training, promoting a proactive and positive safety culture.
  • Ensure robust contractor and partner health and safety management arrangements are in place.
  • Lead, motivate and develop the Health and Safety Team while driving continuous improvement and service excellence.

What are we looking for?

Essential:

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 Health and Safety qualification.
  • Significant senior-level experience leading health and safety functions within a complex organisation.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing health and safety strategies and management systems.
  • Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, risk management and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience providing strategic advice and assurance to Boards, Executive Teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent leadership, influencing, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience of managing teams, budgets and service improvement programmes.
  • Understanding of the social housing regulatory environment, landlord compliance and building safety responsibilities.

Desirable:

  • Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards achievement.
  • Qualification in wellbeing, occupational health or organisational development.
  • Experience implementing ISO 45001 or similar management systems.
  • Project management or management qualification.
