Location:  Longdon Hall School, Lichfield, Staffordshire, WS15 4PT
Hours:  37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday     
Salary:  Up to £45,000.00 per annum (depending on experience, not pro rata)
Contract:  Permanent | Term Time Only
Start:  January 2027

About the Role

We are seeking an inspiring and ambitious Head of Maths to lead the development and delivery of an engaging, high-quality mathematics curriculum that enables every student to achieve their full potential. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the strategic direction of Maths across the school, drive outstanding teaching and learning, and make a lasting impact on student outcomes.

Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, you will lead and develop the Maths department, ensuring that the curriculum is ambitious, responsive to individual needs and aligned with national expectations. You will support colleagues to deliver consistently high standards of teaching, assessment and behaviour, while fostering a culture of collaboration, professional growth and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the strategic development, implementation and evaluation of the Maths curriculum.
  • Managing the day-to-day operation of the Maths department and supporting a culture of high expectations and achievement.
  • Driving improvements in teaching, learning, assessment and student progress across the subject.
  • Coaching, developing and motivating staff to deliver outstanding educational outcomes.
  • Monitoring curriculum quality through assessment, moderation and performance analysis.
  • Teaching Maths and preparing students for examinations and accredited qualifications.
  • Supporting students' academic, personal and social development through high-quality teaching and pastoral care.
  • Working collaboratively with families, external agencies and colleagues to support student success.
  • Contributing to whole-school improvement planning and the continued development of the school's curriculum offer.
  • Promoting a positive, inclusive and engaging learning environment where students can thrive.

This role is ideal for an experienced and passionate Maths leader who is committed to raising achievement, developing colleagues and inspiring students to develop confidence and success in mathematics.

About You

We are looking for an inspirational and experienced Maths leader who is passionate about delivering exceptional educational outcomes and helping every student achieve their full potential. You will be a confident practitioner with the ability to lead, motivate and develop others while promoting a culture of high expectations, inclusion and continuous improvement.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have substantial experience teaching Mathematics.
  • Have a proven track record of raising attainment and improving outcomes for students.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire, coach and develop colleagues.
  • Be confident in curriculum design, assessment, moderation and quality assurance.
  • Have excellent knowledge of the Maths curriculum and examination requirements.
  • Be able to analyse performance data and use it to inform teaching, learning and improvement strategies.
  • Be committed to delivering outstanding teaching and learning experiences for all students.

Longdon Hall School is an independent specialist day school for boys and girls aged from 7 to 18, catering for students with a wide range of social, emotional, and mental health needs. Our dedicated team work together to ensure successful outcomes for students who often arrive at the school with a troubled view of education and life.

This opportunity is in Lichfield which is within commutable distance of Cannock, Burton upon Trent and surrounding areas.
