Distribution Centre

My client is the UK arm of an international automotive parts supplier with a modern, automated distribution centre/UK office near Chesterfield.  They are looking for a Head of Operations to lead this single site operation, responsible for outbound and inbound product, control room functions, quality, inventory, returns and facilities management.  If you're a driven operational leader, focused on continuous improvement with the ability to inspire multi functional teams, this is an excellent opportunity to join a growing business with a fantastic reputation.

The Role:

  • In this role you'll be leading the day-to-day distribution operation, holding responsibility across the departments listed above
  • You'll own the performance of around 200 operatives in a 3 shift operation, delivering against KPI's including service, productivity, cost, quality, stock accuracy, automation performance and health and safety.
  • You'll oversee picking of approximately 25,000 lines, generally for overnight courier distribution to B2B customers.
  • The focus is on improving inventory accuracy, warehouse flow, labour planning, third-party storage utilisation and fulfilment reliability.  
  • Identifying and resolving recurring customer service issues through root cause analysis
  • You'll be managing direct reports, but also leading and developing operational managers, supervisors and front line colleagues.
  • The key to the role is fostering a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, coaching and mentoring, whist championing health and safety, compliance and risk management.

The Person:

  • We're looking for someone with senior operations leadership experience in distribution, logistics, e-commerce, wholesale or similar environments. 
  • You'll have managed 100+ reports and be visible and credible with front line teams.  Effective communication and the ability to engage colleagues across all functions is essential.
  • Hands-on warehouse management systems experience is a MUST and a knowledge of SAP would be beneficial but not essential.  
  • Ideally you'll have experience managing projects such as automation introduction, system implementation or similar would be strongly advantageous.
  • Lean, Six Sigma or other structured continuous improvement experience would be very beneficial.

The Package:

  • A basic salary between £75,000 and £90,000 is offered depending on experience.
