To design, implement and manage the delivery of the client health and safety, risk, loss prevention and compliance strategies, in all business areas, to support the clients business plan and objectives. To maximise opportunities and minimise risks to the business, colleagues, customers, reputation and the interest of stakeholders. To facilitate an environment that is safe, legal and aligned to the organisation’s purpose and risk appetite.
Key Accountabilities
- Assist the Leadership Team and Board to develop its Risk Management policy and to establish the Society's Risk Appetite. Develop and ensure the implementation of a robust proportionate and effective enterprise risk management framework which sees risks and mitigating actions regularly identified at tracked at project/programme, department, business area and strategic levels, aligning with the business planning processes.
- To engage with operational and functional teams and key stakeholders at all levels of the business, to fully understand business programmes, priorities and requirements.
- Embedding customer service across the Risk, LP and H&S teams.
- Develop the clients health and safety management strategy, policies and compliance programmes, seeking Board approval as appropriate.
- As the clients competent person, provide in-house technical expertise and act as a point of reference and consultation on all risk and compliance matters, including health and safety, medicine wholesale and alcohol wholesale licensing. Advise the
- Board and Chief Executive in relation to the appropriate response and follow-up actions required in the event of a significant incident or breach, including accidents, FCA regulatory breaches, and suspicious activity reports, and take responsibility for reporting to, and follow-up with, enforcement authorities, seeking to mitigate the
- impact of such incidents for the Society, its subsidiaries and affected third parties.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of its compliance monitoring programme and provide independent challenge through audits and testing, with actions arising therefrom tracked appropriately.
- Carry out the role of ‘Responsible Person’ as defined within the Human Medicines Regulation. As such be responsible for safeguarding users of medicines against potential hazards arising from poor distribution practices of supplied medicines within
- Welcome franchise operations. Ensure the responsibilities of the RP, as detailed in the WDA Responsible Person Job Description, are carried out. Continually update and maintain an in-depth knowledge of Good Distribution Practice and the Human
- Develop and oversee the implementation of SC’s risk-based strategy for countering the risk that the firm might be used to further financial crime and perform the related senior management function prescribed responsibilities related to the FCA’s regulation of funeral planning.
- To be responsible for the development, maintenance and testing of business continuity plans, chairing the BCP Steering Group, to limit risks and proactively prepare for foreseeable events.
- To oversee the development and maintenance of a register of legislation and regulations, identifying the three lines of defence, and work with central support and business operational teams to ensure that health and safety, environmental, regulated operations and other compliance programmes are fully embedded within our operational activities to monitor and ensure required standards are met and policies followed.
- To oversee and be responsible for the provision of support, guidance, education and training to colleagues to positively build awareness of health and safety and other areas of risk and compliance across the organisation and to engender a culture of ownership as appropriate at each level of the business.
- To track future legislation and regulations and support the business in preparing for and putting in place appropriate processes to ensure compliance undertaking appropriate horizon scanning.
- To oversee the management of licensing requirements, including alcohol licensing, for the clients and work with central support, legal and operational teams to ensure licence conditions are met.
- To own and manage the annual H&S/Risk, Compliance Monitoring and Insurance budgets, undertaking forecasts as required, and be responsible for the purchase of the Society’s insurance policies, ensuring that appropriate risks are covered, and recommending additional cover as and when required.
- To manage relationships with Primary Authorities, Local Authorities, Licensing Authorities, enforcement officials and external consultants and specialists, forming an effective bridge between such third parties and the core business.
- To lead, motivate, and performance manage the Risk teams to support the full potential of each individual.
- To develop a series of targets and KPIs to effectively monitor progress against, securing buy-in from business and overseeing the timely and robust production of agreed performance reports for appropriate audiences.
- To be an active member of the management team, contributing to the development of wider team strategies, plans and well-being and risk management.
- To establish an external network of peers that will broaden understanding, identify opportunities to work with, or learn from others. To represent the Society externally at relevant trade, professional and federal meetings.
- To facilitate a comprehensive, data lead handover to of all data, compliance and risk as required as part of the merger.
