Head of Risk (focus on Heath and Safety - 6 Month FTC

An established and highly respected multi-site organisation is seeking an experienced Head of Risk to lead its enterprise risk, health & safety and compliance agenda during a period of transformation and strategic change. Operating across a complex and regulated environment, the organisation is committed to protecting its people, customers, reputation and long-term sustainability through the delivery of robust governance, risk and compliance frameworks.

Your New Role

As Head of Risk, you will take ownership of the organisation's enterprise risk management framework, ensuring risks are effectively identified, assessed, mitigated and monitored across operational, project, departmental and strategic levels. You will work closely with senior leadership and the Board to shape risk appetite, strengthen governance and embed a proactive risk culture throughout the business.

Alongside enterprise risk leadership, you will be responsible for overseeing the organisation's health & safety strategy, ensuring policies, procedures and compliance programmes are effectively implemented across a multi-site operation. You will provide expert guidance to senior stakeholders, support regulatory compliance activities and drive continuous improvement across risk, resilience and assurance functions.

Key responsibilities will include:
* Leading and enhancing the enterprise risk management framework.
* Advising senior leadership and Board members on risk exposure and mitigation strategies.
* Developing and implementing organisational health & safety programmes.
* Driving compliance monitoring and assurance activities.
* Supporting business continuity and resilience planning.
* Managing relationships with regulators, external stakeholders and specialist advisors.
* Leading and developing a high-performing risk and compliance team.
* Delivering meaningful risk reporting, KPIs and management information to support decision-making.

What You'll Need to Succeed

To be successful, you will be a proven risk leader with significant experience operating within a complex, regulated or multi-site environment. You will bring a strong background in enterprise risk management together with substantial health & safety expertise.

You'll ideally possess:
* Extensive experience designing and implementing enterprise risk frameworks.
* Strong health & safety leadership experience, ideally supported by relevant professional qualifications.
* Experience working within a regulated environment.
* A track record of embedding risk, compliance and assurance programmes across diverse stakeholder groups.
* Excellent communication and influencing skills with the gravitas to engage at Board level.
* Strong commercial awareness and the ability to balance risk management with business objectives.
* Previous leadership experience with responsibility for developing high-performing teams.
