We are supporting a leading further education provider in the appointment of an experienced Head of School to lead its Building Services, Health & Social Care and Art provision.

This is a senior curriculum leadership opportunity for an ambitious education professional who can combine strategic leadership, curriculum development, commercial awareness and a strong commitment to student success.

The opportunity

The successful candidate will lead a diverse curriculum portfolio spanning three key areas, with Building Services representing the majority of the provision.

You will be responsible for leading curriculum teams, developing high-quality programmes, improving learner outcomes and ensuring provision responds effectively to employer and regional skills needs.

A significant part of the role will involve leading and developing Building Services provision, including vocational programmes such as plumbing, electrical installation, construction and multi-skills. Experience within this area is therefore essential.

You will also play a key role in developing employer partnerships, apprenticeships, commercial provision and work-related learning opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership across the three curriculum areas.
• Lead, motivate and develop teaching and support teams.
• Drive improvements in student recruitment, retention, attendance, achievement and progression.
• Develop curriculum plans aligned to local and national skills needs and employer demand.
• Ensure high standards of teaching, learning, assessment and student support.
• Develop strong relationships with employers, industry partners and external stakeholders.
• Oversee curriculum quality, self-assessment and continuous improvement activity.
• Develop new programmes, apprenticeships, short courses and commercial opportunities.
• Manage staffing, budgets, resources and accommodation effectively.
• Support staff development, performance management and professional development.
• Ensure compliance with relevant awarding body, funding, safeguarding and quality requirements.
• Contribute to the strategic development and future direction of the wider curriculum offer.

About you

You will be an experienced further education leader with a strong track record of delivering successful curriculum provision and improving student outcomes.

You should have:

• A minimum Level 3 vocational qualification, ideally in a Building Services-related discipline.
• A recognised Level 5+ teaching qualification such as PGCE, Cert Ed, DET or equivalent.
• Substantial experience within Further Education.
• Significant experience of Building Services curriculum, such as plumbing, electrical installation, construction or multi-skills.
• Experience leading curriculum teams and managing high-volume, varied programmes.
• A demonstrable track record of improving learner achievement, retention and attendance.
• Experience developing employer and industry partnerships.
• Strong knowledge of curriculum development, quality improvement and awarding body requirements.
• Experience of managing change and implementing new curriculum initiatives.
• Understanding of apprenticeships and FE funding requirements.
• Strong people-management, coaching and leadership skills.
• Excellent communication, planning and organisational abilities.
• A commitment to equality, diversity, safeguarding and student success.
