Salary: Up to £90,000
We are working with a leading membership and standards organisation looking to appoint a commercially driven Head of Technical Industries to lead its next phase of growth, with a particular focus on construction and the built environment.
This is an exciting senior leadership opportunity for someone with a strong construction industry background, an established network and a proven track record of business development, membership growth and strategic relationship management.
The Role
Construction and the built environment will account for approximately 70% of your focus. You will take ownership of growing the organisation's presence and membership across the sector, building on established foundations, existing partnerships and industry relationships.
Your priority will be to drive new member acquisition, strengthen existing relationships, increase revenue and encourage deeper adoption of industry standards and digital solutions.
The remaining 30% will involve exploring growth opportunities across adjacent industries, including defence, aerospace, maritime, energy, automotive, rail and mining, identifying where new propositions and partnerships can deliver commercial value.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver a construction membership growth strategy, driving acquisition, retention, revenue and engagement.
- Build a strong commercial pipeline, converting industry relationships and opportunities into new memberships.
- Develop senior relationships with construction businesses, manufacturers, contractors, consultants, government, regulators and trade associations.
- Create compelling membership propositions that demonstrate the commercial benefits of industry standards.
- Drive adoption of digital identification, QR codes, RFID, product data and asset management solutions across construction supply chains.
- Increase the value of existing memberships by encouraging broader and deeper use of standards.
- Work closely with marketing, membership and partnerships teams to generate opportunities and deliver growth campaigns.
- Evaluate opportunities in adjacent technical industries through structured market research and business development.
- Represent the organisation at senior industry events, forums and strategic meetings.
- Lead, motivate and develop a dedicated engagement team, ensuring delivery against commercial and strategic objectives.
About You
You will ideally have:
- Significant experience within construction, the built environment, construction products, engineering, infrastructure or asset management.
- An established network of senior construction industry contacts.
- A proven track record in business development, membership growth, account management or revenue generation.
- Experience developing and delivering commercial growth strategies and converting opportunities into measurable results.
- Strong relationship-building and influencing skills, including at director and board level.
- Experience leading and developing teams.
- An understanding of digital transformation, supply chains, product identification, traceability or data-sharing solutions.
Knowledge of GS1 standards, QR codes, RFID and product data would be advantageous, although candidates with transferable experience in construction technology and digital transformation will also be considered.
The Opportunity
This is a chance to take ownership of a significant construction industry growth agenda, build on an established platform and play a key role in shaping the organisation's wider technical industries strategy.
You will have the opportunity to influence how construction businesses embrace digital standards, improve supply chain information and transform the way products and assets are identified and managed.
