Health and Safety Manager - Carlisle, Cumbria - civil engineering project - £65k-£75k+car / car allowance and benefits
The successful candidate will champion a positive safety culture, ensuring the highest standards of health, safety and environmental compliance are maintained throughout the project lifecycle. You will work closely with construction teams, subcontractors and client stakeholders to drive continuous improvement, promote best practice and ensure the safe delivery of complex civil engineering and infrastructure works.
This role offers the opportunity to play a pivotal part in a nationally significant infrastructure programme involving major civil engineering, electrical infrastructure and complex construction activities.
Duties:
Lead and promote a proactive health and safety culture across the project.
Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety and environmental legislation.
Provide expert health and safety advice to project leadership and operational teams.
Develop, implement and review health and safety management systems and procedures.
Conduct regular site inspections, audits and assurance activities.
Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure compliance with project requirements.
Lead incident investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Deliver health and safety briefings, training and awareness initiatives.
Produce and present health and safety performance reports to senior stakeholders.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project safety performance.
Person Spec:
NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 Health and Safety qualification.
Membership of IOSH at GradIOSH, CMIOSH or equivalent professional level.
Significant experience managing health and safety within major construction, civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations and UK health and safety legislation.
Experience working with principal contractors and multi-disciplinary project teams.
Proven ability to influence, engage and challenge stakeholders at all levels.
Strong auditing, investigation and risk management capabilities.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Ability to work independently whilst supporting wider project objectives.
