  • Guildford, Surrey - Monday to Friday, On-Site

Search² is exclusively recruiting a Health and Safety Manager for an established engineering and manufacturing business again based in Guildford.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Health and Safety professional who is ready to take greater ownership, become the senior safety lead on site and gain direct exposure to the Board of Directors.

You could already be operating at Manager level, or you might be an experienced Health and Safety Advisor working within a larger HSEQ structure who feels ready to step up and take ownership of a site.

Why this role could be a great next step
  • Become the most senior Health and Safety professional on site, with direct exposure to the Board of Directors.
  • Take ownership of the safety agenda and have the autonomy to make recommendations and drive improvements.
  • An opportunity to make the step from Advisor to Manager without needing to have previously led an H&S function.
  • Work directly with senior leadership, giving you exposure to how Health and Safety influences wider business decisions.
  • Remain hands-on and visible across an engineering and manufacturing environment, rather than moving into a purely strategic or systems-based position.
  • Broaden your experience across health, safety, environment, quality and integrated management systems.
  • Join a stable, established business offering long-term career development and continued professional development.
What you will be doing

As Health and Safety Manager, you will take day-to-day ownership of Health and Safety across the site, working closely with the Board of Directors, managers, engineering teams and employees.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Acting as the site's senior point of contact for Health and Safety.
  • Providing practical advice and recommendations to senior management and the Board.
  • Developing and continually improving Health and Safety standards across the operation.
  • Working closely with operational and production teams to identify risks and implement practical improvements.
  • Completing and reviewing risk assessments, inspections and safe systems of work.
  • Investigating incidents and near misses and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
  • Maintaining and improving the company's Integrated Management System.
  • Supporting compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Leading and supporting internal and external audits.
  • Delivering inductions, toolbox talks and relevant Health and Safety training.
  • Monitoring H&S performance and providing information and recommendations to senior management.
  • Building engagement across the workforce and helping managers and employees take greater ownership of safety.
What you will need

We are interested in speaking with Health and Safety professionals who have experience within engineering, manufacturing, industrial or similarly operational environments.

You will ideally have:
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
  • Experience as a Health and Safety Advisor, Senior Health and Safety Advisor, Health and Safety Manager, HSE Manager, QHSE Manager or similar.
  • Strong practical Health and Safety experience within an operational environment.
  • Experience completing risk assessments, investigations, inspections and audits.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001, with exposure to ISO 9001 and/or ISO 14001 advantageous.
  • The confidence to build relationships with everyone from shop-floor employees through to Directors.
  • The ability to work independently, prioritise risks and provide practical recommendations.
  • A pragmatic approach to Health and Safety, focused on influencing people and improving standards rather than simply policing compliance.
Previous experience as a Health and Safety Manager is not essential.

If you're an experienced Advisor who has developed a strong grounding in operational Health and Safety and you're ready to take ownership of a site and increase your exposure to senior leadership, we'd be particularly interested in hearing from you.
