We are working with one of our long-standing clients, a highly regarded and established organisation based in Harrogate, who are looking to appoint an experienced Health & Safety Compliance professional.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking for a varied, hands-on role, combining desk-based compliance and policy work with a strong presence across the site. You will work closely with the Estates Manager and wider teams to ensure Health & Safety standards, statutory requirements and compliance processes are maintained to a high standard.
The role
You will take responsibility for a broad range of Health & Safety compliance activities, including:
- Maintaining and reviewing Health & Safety policies, procedures and compliance systems.
- Ensuring statutory inspections, testing and servicing are completed and accurately recorded.
- Carrying out risk assessments, audits, inspections and compliance reviews.
- Supporting compliance across Fire Safety, Asbestos, Legionella, COSHH, CDM and contractor management.
- Maintaining central compliance records, registers and documentation.
- Monitoring actions arising from audits, inspections and risk assessments.
- Supporting accident, incident and near-miss reporting, including RIDDOR.
- Working with departments and teams to ensure Health & Safety requirements are understood and implemented.
- Providing Health & Safety advice and guidance across the organisation.
- Delivering Health & Safety training and supporting the organisation's e-learning programme.
- Liaising with external Health & Safety specialists, contractors and relevant authorities.
- Supporting wider estates compliance, including vehicles, site security and events.
- Providing reports and updates to senior stakeholders and Health & Safety committees.
About you
You will have at least three years' recent and relevant Health & Safety experience, ideally within a complex or regulated environment, with a strong understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and compliance.
We are looking for:
- NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
- Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and compliance.
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
- Experience developing, implementing and reviewing Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Experience carrying out risk assessments, audits and compliance checks.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Health & Safety compliance portals.
- Experience delivering Health & Safety training to staff.
- A calm but assertive approach, with the ability to influence and encourage positive changes in Health & Safety behaviour.
- A self-motivated and accountable approach, with the ability to manage your own workload and adapt to change.
Desirable experience includes: Fire Safety, Legionella and Asbestos management, including experience acting as the Responsible Person; COSHH; ISI National Minimum Standards; and swimming pool safety/plant management, including a Small Pool Operators Certificate.
This role would suit someone who is practical, organised and confident, enjoys taking ownership and is equally comfortable managing compliance from the desk as they are getting out across site and working with people.
