Health & Safety Manager - Construction
£50,000 to £55,000
Are you a proactive Health & Safety professional who can influence, lead and make a real difference? This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) standards within a fast-growing UK facilities management and building maintenance business.
Working closely with senior leadership, you’ll have the opportunity to shape safety culture, strengthen compliance and ensure colleagues, subcontractors and clients go home safe every day.
If you’re passionate about continuous improvement and enjoy a role where no two days are the same, we’d love to hear from you.
The Opportunity
This is more than a compliance role. You’ll be a trusted HSE partner to the business, providing expert advice, improving systems and embedding best practice across a varied operational environment.
You’ll combine hands-on site engagement with strategic input, helping the business manage risk, meet its obligations and continually raise the bar on health and safety.
What You’ll Be Doing
-
Lead HSE improvements: Develop, implement and review policies, procedures and systems in line with current legislation and best practice.
-
Influence and advise: Work closely with senior management, operational teams, engineers, clients and subcontractors to promote a proactive safety culture.
-
Get out on site: Carry out inspections, audits and spot checks, focusing on higher-risk activities and driving practical improvements.
-
Manage risk: Prepare and review risk assessments and method statements, including COSHH, manual handling, work equipment and lifting operations.
-
Investigate and prevent: Lead accident and incident investigations, complete root cause analysis and ensure RIDDOR-reportable incidents are reported within the required timescales.
-
Deliver engaging training: Run toolbox talks, inductions and internal training to build awareness and confidence across the workforce.
-
Oversee subcontractor compliance: Support onboarding, monitor standards and ensure subcontractors meet required HSE expectations.
-
Maintain standards and accreditations: Support compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, keeping audits, records and accreditations up to date.
-
Support major projects: Prepare project documentation and site safety folders, including for F10-notifiable projects where required.
-
Report and recommend: Produce clear HSE performance reports, identify trends and present recommendations to senior management and the Board.
-
Champion continuous improvement: Work alongside HR and operational teams to strengthen safe working practices, PPE provision and equipment compliance.
