An established and growing construction business is looking to appoint an experienced Health & Safety Manager to support its expanding portfolio of projects across London.

This is a key position within the operational team, responsible for promoting a strong health and safety culture and ensuring consistently high standards are maintained across multiple live construction sites. Reporting to the Operations Director, you will work closely with project and site teams, providing practical guidance while ensuring compliance with current UK health and safety legislation and ISO 45001 standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote and maintain a positive, proactive health and safety culture across all construction projects.
  • Provide clear and practical health and safety advice to site and operational teams.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
  • Support the ongoing implementation and development of the company’s ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
  • Review Construction Phase Plans, RAMS, lifting plans and temporary works documentation.
  • Monitor high-risk construction activities and ensure suitable safety controls are implemented and maintained.
  • Lead investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and supporting the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks and other health and safety briefings.
  • Produce detailed inspection and audit reports, including monthly health and safety performance information.
  • Work closely with project teams, clients, consultants and subcontractors to maintain effective health and safety standards.
  • Support continuous improvement across health and safety procedures, systems and project delivery.
Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate will be an experienced and hands-on Health & Safety professional with a strong construction background. You will be comfortable working across several live projects and confident engaging with operational teams at all levels.

You will ideally have:

  • Between 5 and 10 years’ experience within construction health and safety.
  • Previous experience working for a Principal Contractor on live construction projects.
  • A strong understanding of the CDM Regulations 2015 and wider UK health and safety legislation.
  • Experience implementing, maintaining or improving an ISO 45001 Health and Safety Management System.
  • Proven experience carrying out site inspections, health and safety audits and incident investigations.
  • Experience reviewing Construction Phase Plans, RAMS and other project health and safety documentation.
  • A NEBOSH Construction Certificate, or equivalent construction-specific health and safety qualification.
  • A NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • IOSH membership, with TechIOSH, GradIOSH or CMIOSH membership considered advantageous.
  • A valid CSCS Professionally Qualified Person Card.
  • An SSSTS qualification.
