We are currently working with a well-established specialist contractor operating across groundworks, reinforced concrete frames, basements, remediation and civil engineering.
Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Lead Health & Safety Manager to take a senior role within the business and help drive standards across their projects and wider operations.
The Role
This is a key position within the organisation, working closely with senior management, project teams and site personnel to ensure health and safety remains at the forefront of project delivery.You will take ownership of the company's H&S approach while providing practical support and leadership across multiple live projects.
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading and developing the company's Health & Safety strategy
- Providing expert H&S advice to senior management and operational teams
- Conducting regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews
- Supporting project teams with risk assessments and method statements
- Reviewing and developing Construction Phase Plans
- Monitoring compliance with CDM and relevant H&S legislation
- Identifying potential risks and implementing appropriate control measures
- Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses
- Producing reports and recommendations for senior management
- Working closely with Site Managers, Project Managers and Contracts Managers
- Delivering toolbox talks, briefings and H&S training where required
- Supporting the development of a strong positive safety culture across the business
- Monitoring subcontractor and supply-chain compliance
- Assisting with pre-construction H&S requirements and project mobilisation
- Keeping the business up to date with legislative and industry changes
- Driving continuous improvement in health and safety standards
About You
We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Manager / Senior H&S professional who has strong experience within the construction industry and is comfortable operating at both strategic and site level.
Ideally, you will have:
- Significant Health & Safety experience within construction
- Experience working for a main contractor or specialist subcontractor
- Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations and UK construction legislation
- Experience across groundworks, civils, RC frame, basements or similar complex construction environments
- NEBOSH Construction or equivalent qualification
- Relevant IOSH membership
- Strong auditing, inspection and reporting experience
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- The confidence to challenge unsafe practices and drive improvements
- Experience working directly with senior management and operational teams
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to Health & Safety
