Health & Safety Manager - London/Surrey (Hybrid) - £65,000
We are supporting a leading global technology and consulting organisation that is delivering a major Transport project and is looking for an experienced Health, Safety & Environment (SHE) Manager to join the team.
This is a senior role responsible for leading all Safety, Health and Environmental activities across the project, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, contractual requirements and the organisation's SHE framework.
What You'll Be Doing
- Develop, implement and maintain project SHE Management Plans and associated SHE deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, CDM Regulations, environmental legislation and contractual requirements.
- Lead and manage the SHE team, providing coaching, direction and performance oversight.
- Act as the primary SHE contact for the client, attending coordination meetings, audits, safety reviews and workshops.
- Oversee SHE documentation including risk assessments, RAMS, reports and evidence required by internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain SHE records in accordance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Lead safety risk identification, assessment, mitigation and tracking across project workstreams.
- Lead incident investigations, root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
- Identify and deliver SHE training and awareness initiatives, including inductions and toolbox talks.
- Work closely with project stakeholders and subcontractors to promote a strong, proactive safety culture.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced SHE professional with strong knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental requirements, ideally gained within transport, rail or similarly regulated environments.
You'll ideally have:
- A relevant bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Construction or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in SHE management, ideally within TfL, Network Rail or a similar transport/rail environment.
- NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum; NEBOSH Diploma would be advantageous.
- An environmental qualification such as an IEMA Certificate or above, or significant environmental management experience.
- Strong knowledge of UK SHE legislation and CDM Regulations.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and operate effectively under pressure.
- A strong understanding of governance frameworks and UK compliance standards.
Desirable Experience
Experience in any of the following would be highly beneficial:
- Health, Safety & Quality within the rail industry.
- LUL Contract QUENSH.
- Network Rail safety contract requirements.
- Rail Group Standards.
- LinkUp Core Audit experience.
