Health, Safety & Transport Compliance Manager, Sheffield
This hands-on role sits at the centre of safety, compliance and transport performance across a multi-site logistics environment. You will influence teams at every level, drive consistency and ensure the organisation remains fully compliant and future-ready.
Key responsibilities include developing and enhancing a group-wide health and safety strategy, standardising policies and safe systems of work, and embedding a proactive behavioural safety culture across transport, rail terminal and engineering operations.
You will ensure full compliance with operator licence undertakings and transport legislation, act as the central point for DVSA compliance, oversee tachograph compliance, driver hours and Working Time Directive adherence, and monitor vehicle maintenance systems and inspection schedules. You will support and challenge Transport Managers, and lead preparation for audits, DVSA investigations and public enquiries.
The role includes conducting regular compliance audits, leading accident, incident and near-miss investigations with full root-cause analysis, maintaining and developing RAMS and safe systems of work, and implementing corrective and preventative actions across all sites.
You will deliver and oversee health, safety and transport compliance training, drive CPC awareness, toolbox talks and ongoing development, and build a strong, engaged safety-first culture across all teams.
You will work closely with depot managers, transport teams and senior leadership, providing practical, commercially aware compliance solutions while supporting operational efficiency and maintaining legal compliance.
About You
You should bring senior experience in either health and safety and/or transport compliance (or both!), strong knowledge of operator licence compliance and DVSA expectations, a confident hands-on leadership style, strong attention to detail, resilience and a solutions-focused approach.
Essential qualifications include the NEBOSH General Certificate and a full UK driving licence. The NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent is preferred, CPC in Road Haulage Transport Management is highly desirable.
