The Role
This is a highly visible, boots-on-the-ground role where you'll spend the majority of your time engaging directly with operational teams, supervisors and managers across site. You'll be responsible for promoting a proactive safety culture, building strong working relationships and providing practical support to ensure health, safety and wellbeing standards are consistently achieved.
Working closely with operational management, you'll carry out regular site inspections, audits and risk-based assurance activities, identifying potential hazards before they become incidents. You'll provide clear, constructive feedback, challenge unsafe behaviours where necessary and support teams in implementing effective solutions.
You'll play a key role in incident response and investigations, gathering facts, producing detailed reports and ensuring lessons learned are communicated across the project. You'll also support work planning activities, review safety documentation, promote best practice and help drive continuous improvement throughout the workforce.
This role requires someone who is comfortable engaging with people at every level, capable of influencing behaviours and confident having challenging conversations when standards fall short. We're looking for someone who can build credibility quickly, remain calm under pressure and positively influence a diverse range of stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in a Senior Health, Safety & Wellness role within construction or major infrastructure projects
- Strong background in conducting inspections, audits, risk assessments and risk-based assurance
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels
- Comfortable challenging behaviours and holding difficult but constructive conversations
- Experience supporting incident investigations and producing clear, factual reports
- Strong understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation
- Manager-level CSCS Card (essential)
- NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 4, 5 or 6 in Occupational Health & Safety (essential)
- IOSH membership (or working towards) would be advantageous
- A proactive approach with a genuine passion for improving health, safety and wellbeing performance
If you're an experienced Health & Safety professional looking for your next challenge on a nationally significant construction project and enjoy being out on site making a real difference, we'd love to hear from you.
