Health & Safety Officer

Location: South Wales (Office & Field Based)
Rate: £17.54 per hour
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Contract: Fixed-Term Contract until 31st March 2027

We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Officer to join a well-established organisation in South Wales on a fixed-term contract through to March 2027.
This is a varied role combining office and site-based activities, supporting operational teams working in field environments involving power tools, heavy machinery, excavation works and other high-risk activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring health, safety and wellbeing standards are maintained, monitored and continuously improved across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and update health and safety policies, procedures and documentation to ensure compliance with current legislation.
  • Undertake reviews of existing risk assessments and method statements, ensuring they remain effective and fit for purpose.
  • Monitor and supervise work activities to ensure safe working practices are being followed.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and operational teams on health and safety matters.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections across various field-based locations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve health, safety and wellbeing practices and documentation.
  • Support incident investigations and recommend corrective actions where required.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the organisation.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports relating to health and safety performance.

About You
  • Relevant Health & Safety qualifications (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent).
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across sites in South Wales.
  • Previous experience within a Health & Safety role, ideally supporting operational, construction, utilities, engineering or field-based environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of current UK Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
  • Experience compiling and reviewing risk assessments and method statements.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • The ability to influence and engage with colleagues at all levels.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
