HGV Class 2 Onsite Yard Driver / Yard Operative - About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a reliable, organised and proactive HGV Class 2 Onsite Yard Driver / Yard Operative to join a leading transport company based in West Drayton.

This is a fully onsite, yard-based role combining HGV Class 2 vehicle movements with general yard operations, vehicle positioning, housekeeping and maintenance duties.

The successful candidate will be responsible for safely shunting and manoeuvring HGVs and commercial vehicles around the site, ensuring vehicles are positioned correctly, maintaining a safe and organised yard, and supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the site.

This role is ideal for an experienced Class 2 driver who enjoys a varied, hands-on position and is comfortable undertaking both driving and general yard operative duties.

HGV Class 2 Onsite Yard Driver / Yard Operative-Key Responsibilities

• Maintain the yard in a safe, clean, and organised condition at all times.

• Safely shunt and manoeuvre HGV Class 2 vehicles around the site.

• Move and position commercial vehicles as required.

• Reorganise vehicles to maximise yard capacity and maintain clear access.

• Manage vehicle drop-offs, collections and movements.

• Liaise with workshop and operational staff regarding vehicle priorities.

• Carry out daily vehicle checks, yard inspections and trailer seal checks.

• Maintain a clean, safe and organised yard.

• Assist with loading, unloading, vehicle positioning and general yard maintenance.

• Undertake manual handling duties, including lifting up to 40kg as part of a two-person operation.

• Follow UK Road Laws, Working Time Regulations, health and safety requirements and company procedures.

• Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

HGV Class 2 Onsite Yard Driver / Yard Operative -Requirements

• Valid HGV Class 2 (Category C) licence.

• Valid Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card.

• Minimum 6–12 months' Class 2 driving experience.

• Previous experience in a yard, depot, workshop or transport environment.

• Class 1 (Category C+E) licence would be advantageous.

• Good understanding of vehicle safety and yard operations.

• Good spoken and written English.

• Reliable, flexible and hardworking.

• Good organisational and communication skills.

• Physically fit and able to undertake manual handling duties.

• Willingness to undertake both HGV driving and general yard duties.
