About Longcliffe Quarries
As a leading independent supplier of high-purity calcium carbonate derivatives, Longcliffe Quarries operates a heavy industrial footprint supported by a premier corporate fleet. We are looking for an entrepreneurial, forward-thinking HGV Workshop Manager to take the reins of our engineering and maintenance facility. This is not just a job keeping wheels turning; it is an autonomous opportunity to run our high-volume workshop with the strategic commercial freedom of an independent enterprise.
The Opportunity
This role is designed for a commercially astute engineering leader who wants to put their own stamp on a business. You will have full operational and financial ownership, treating our fleet operation as your own commercial business unit. By combining technical workshop excellence with sharp P&L oversight, you will optimize asset availability, champion safety culture, and actively identify outside business opportunities to transform the workshop into a profit-generating commercial hub.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial & Financial Ownership: Take full P&L accountability for the workshop budget. Pinpoint structural cost-saving efficiencies, control parts inventory procurement, and negotiate with parts suppliers to secure maximum value for money.
- Team Leadership & Performance: Direct, mentor, and upskill our team of multi-skilled technicians and mechanics. Set clear targets, structure shift patterns, and drive a high-performance culture that takes pride in keeping downtime to an absolute minimum.
- Compliance & Legal Governance: Maintain total oversight of statutory maintenance scheduling, routine inspections, and MOT preparation pipelines. Ensure all engineering repairs and vehicle records meet strict DVSA requirements and industry regulations.
- Health, Safety & Environment (HSE): Lead an uncompromised safety culture across all bays. Enforce rigorous risk assessments, safe systems of work, and absolute adherence to workshop legislation to protect your technical team without compromising productivity timelines.
- Operational Efficiency & Fleet Strategy: Track workshop KPIs, analyze asset downtime trends, and build continuous improvement strategies to optimize vehicle reliability. Partner with senior stakeholders to assist with vehicle specification and long-term lifecycle planning.
- Business Growth: Identify and build new commercial opportunities to service external clients or subcontractor fleets, driving additional revenue streams through the workshop.
What We Are Looking For
- Workshop Management Experience: A proven track record of managing a busy HGV workshop team and setting clear performance targets.
- Commercial Mindset: Strong financial awareness with experience managing budgets, controlling costs, and negotiating with suppliers.
- Compliance Knowledge: Thorough understanding of HGV maintenance legislation, DVSA standards, and MOT prep routines.
- Safety First Approach: A leader who maintains a clean, safe working environment and enforces strict workplace health and safety rules.
- Leadership Skills: The ability to motivate technicians, organize daily workloads, and hit deadlines under pressure.
Why Join Us?
- True Autonomy: The independence to build, manage, and scale the workshop operation your way.
- Stable, Leading Employer: Direct employment with a highly respected, long-established industry giant investing heavily in its infrastructure.
- Premium Package: A competitive salary scale of £65k – £70k along with excellent corporate benefits.
