HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) - SEN Experience Required

South London Full-Time | Long-Term Opportunity £110 - £140 per day (dependent on experience)

Are you an experienced HLTA looking for a rewarding role within a supportive SEN setting?

We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist school in South London. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident HLTA who is passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs and helping them achieve their full potential.

The Role

As an HLTA, you will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning across the school. Working closely with teachers and the SEN team, you will lead small group interventions, deliver pre-planned lessons, and provide targeted support for students with a range of special educational needs.

The setting supports pupils with needs including:

  • Autism (ASC)
  • SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs)
  • ADHD
  • Speech and Language Difficulties
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
  • Additional complex needs

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver lessons and learning activities in the absence of the teacher.
  • Lead intervention groups and targeted academic support sessions.
  • Provide 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs.
  • Support students with emotional regulation and behaviour management.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to monitor progress and implement support strategies.
  • Help create a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Contribute to EHCP targets and pupil development plans.

The Ideal Candidate

  • HLTA qualification or significant experience in a similar role.
  • Previous experience working within an SEN school, alternative provision, or specialist setting.
  • Strong understanding of Autism, SEMH, and additional learning needs.
  • Confident leading small groups and delivering learning activities independently.
  • Excellent behaviour management and communication skills.
  • Patient, resilient, and passionate about supporting vulnerable learners.
