Marks Consulting Partners are currently looking for a Housing Advice & Homeless Prevention Officer to work with one of our Local Authority clients in Middlesex.
What the Job Will Be Doing
- Managing a caseload of residents at risk of homelessness, providing tailored housing advice and prevention solutions
- Assessing homelessness applications in line with Housing Act 1996 (Part VII) and relevant legislation
- Delivering proactive homelessness prevention, including early intervention and crisis management
- Supporting residents to access a wide range of housing options, including private rented sector and move-on accommodation
- Working closely with landlords, agents and partner organisations to secure suitable housing solutions
- Providing advice on tenancy rights, security of tenure and welfare benefits to prevent homelessness
- Managing complex and high-risk cases, including safeguarding and vulnerability considerations
- Liaising with internal teams such as Allocations, Social Care and other services to deliver a joined-up approach
- Maintaining accurate case records and ensuring all statutory duties are met within required timescales
- Handling complaints, member enquiries and representing the service at meetings where required
- Identifying and preventing fraudulent applications for housing assistance
- Contributing to service improvement and supporting delivery of housing and homelessness strategies
- Working on a hybrid basis, with 2–3 days per week in the office
What You Will Need
- Experience working within Housing Options, Homelessness Prevention or a similar housing role
- Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation, particularly Housing Act 1996 Part VII
- Experience managing a caseload and delivering housing advice to vulnerable residents
- Ability to handle complex cases and work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders including landlords and support agencies
- Good understanding of safeguarding and supporting vulnerable households
- Strong organisational skills and ability to maintain accurate records
