Housing Advisor in Central London

A London Local Authority is seeking an experienced Housing Advisor to join its team and help prevent homelessness by providing advice, support and practical housing solutions to residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prevent and relieve homelessness in accordance with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Housing Act 1996 and relevant legislation.
- Conduct housing needs assessments and develop personalised housing plans.
- Manage a complex caseload of priority and non-priority customers, maintaining accurate case records and meeting performance targets.
- Provide housing advice, advocacy, negotiation and mediation to help residents remain in their existing accommodation wherever possible.
- Assess and investigate homelessness applications, advising customers of decisions and available options.
- Deliver a customer-facing service through face-to-face appointments, drop-in sessions and telephone advice.
- Explore alternative housing options, including private rented accommodation, to minimise the need for temporary accommodation.
- Assess temporary accommodation requirements and coordinate placements where necessary.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to achieve positive outcomes for residents.
- Proven experience in housing advice and homelessness prevention.
- Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation, particularly the Homelessness Reduction Act and Part VII of the Housing Act 1996.
- Experience undertaking housing assessments, managing complex caseloads and developing housing plans.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a busy, challenging environment.
