Adecco are recruiting on behalf of a Local Authority for an experienced Housing Inspection Officer to join their Housing team.

Contract: Temporary
Hours: Full Time, Monday to Friday
Rate: TBC

This is an excellent opportunity for a housing professional with experience in property inspections, repairs, maintenance, and disrepair management to help ensure temporary accommodation meets the required standards and remains safe, compliant, and fit for occupation.



The Role

As a Housing Inspection Officer, you will be responsible for carrying out inspections of temporary accommodation properties, identifying repair and maintenance issues, monitoring accommodation standards, and ensuring providers deliver high-quality housing services. You will play a key role in supporting the council's obligations around property condition, compliance, and resident safety.



Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine and responsive inspections of temporary accommodation properties.
  • Identify repair, maintenance, and refurbishment requirements and monitor corrective actions.
  • Carry out stock condition inspections to assess building elements, fixtures, fittings, and essential services.
  • Investigate and monitor property disrepair issues, ensuring cases are progressed within agreed timescales.
  • Liaise with accommodation providers, landlords, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure repairs are completed to the required standard.
  • Support the management of legal disrepair claims and work closely with relevant teams to minimise risk to the council.
  • Carry out follow-up inspections to verify the quality and completion of repair works.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and photographic evidence.
  • Monitor provider performance and contribute to service improvements.


About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience conducting property or housing inspections.
  • Knowledge of repairs, maintenance, housing standards, and building defects.
  • Experience managing disrepair issues and property-related complaints.
  • Strong report writing and record-keeping skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • The ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.
  • Local authority or social housing experience would be advantageous.
