We are currently recruiting for an experienced Housing Officer to join a local authority housing team based Northampton.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive housing professional to take responsibility for a portfolio of properties and provide an effective, customer-focused housing management service.

The Role

As a Housing Officer, you will be responsible for managing a caseload of properties and tenants, ensuring tenancy and estate management issues are dealt with promptly and in accordance with relevant legislation and policies.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a designated patch of properties and tenancies.
  • Providing advice and support to tenants on a range of housing matters.
  • Dealing with tenancy breaches, anti-social behaviour and other tenancy management issues.
  • Carrying out tenancy visits, inspections and estate management activities.
  • Taking appropriate action in relation to rent arrears and tenancy enforcement.
  • Working closely with tenants to prevent tenancy failure and homelessness.
  • Investigating complaints and responding to customer enquiries.
  • Liaising with internal teams, contractors and external agencies.
  • Identifying safeguarding concerns and making appropriate referrals.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records.
  • Taking appropriate enforcement action where required.
  • Supporting vulnerable tenants and working with partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience working within a social housing, local authority or housing association environment.

You will have:

  • Previous experience working as a Housing Officer or in a similar housing management role.
  • Good knowledge of tenancy management and housing legislation.
  • Experience dealing with anti-social behaviour, tenancy breaches and rent arrears.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to manage a varied caseload effectively.
  • Experience working with vulnerable residents and complex cases.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team.
  • A professional, customer-focused and solution-driven approach.
  • The ability to handle difficult conversations and challenging situations confidently.
