A well-established housing provider is seeking an experienced and proactive Housing Officer to join their team on an initial 3-month interim contract, with the potential for the position to become permanent.

Working Pattern: 5 days per week on-site
Contract: 3 months initially, with potential to become permanent
Rate: £22 -£23 per hour
Driving Requirement: Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
Portfolio: 500+ properties across London

The successful candidate will take responsibility for managing a substantial portfolio of 500+ properties across London, delivering a high-quality tenancy management service while supporting the wider housing team. This is a hands-on role requiring strong knowledge of tenancy management, income recovery, voids, nominations and neighbourhood management.

You will also be expected to act as a positive role model and source of support to other housing staff, sharing knowledge, promoting good practice and helping to maintain high standards across the service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of 500+ residential properties across London, ensuring effective tenancy and neighbourhood management.
  • Take full responsibility for the day-to-day management of tenancies, from tenancy commencement through to tenancy termination.
  • Provide professional and proactive advice to residents on tenancy matters, housing management issues and service requests.
  • Manage rent arrears and income recovery, taking appropriate action to maximise rental income and minimise arrears.
  • Identify early warning signs of tenancy failure and implement appropriate interventions to sustain tenancies.
  • Manage void properties, working closely with repairs and other internal teams to minimise void periods and ensure properties are returned to lettable standard.
  • Manage nominations and lettings, ensuring properties are allocated appropriately and in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Conduct tenancy visits, inspections and neighbourhood visits across the London portfolio.
  • Investigate and resolve tenancy breaches, anti-social behaviour, unauthorised occupation and other tenancy management issues.
  • Work collaboratively with residents, local authorities, contractors and partner agencies to resolve complex housing matters.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records on housing management systems, ensuring cases and actions are fully documented.
  • Monitor outstanding actions and proactively progress cases through to resolution.
  • Provide a visible and customer-focused housing management service across the organisation's housing stock.
  • Support the identification and resolution of recurring housing management issues and contribute to continuous service improvement.
  • Act as a role model for housing staff, providing guidance, knowledge sharing and practical support to colleagues.
  • Promote consistency, professionalism and best practice across the housing service.
  • Support colleagues with complex tenancy cases and provide advice on appropriate housing management interventions.
  • Work collaboratively with senior management to achieve key housing performance targets and service objectives.
  • Ensure all activities comply with relevant housing legislation, regulatory requirements, organisational policies and procedures.
  • Travel regularly across London to undertake property visits, resident meetings, inspections and other operational duties.
Essential Experience
  • Proven experience working as a Housing Officer, Tenancy Manager, Neighbourhood Officer or similar housing management professional.
  • Strong experience managing a substantial residential housing portfolio, ideally 500+ properties.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of tenancy management and housing management procedures.
  • Practical experience of income recovery, rent arrears and tenancy sustainment.
  • Experience managing voids and lettings.
  • Experience of nominations and allocations within social housing.
  • Strong understanding of tenancy enforcement, tenancy breaches and housing-related case management.
  • Experience working within a housing association, local authority or social housing environment.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and a high-volume caseload effectively.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider housing team.
  • Demonstrable ability to support, mentor and act as a role model to other housing professionals.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Willingness and ability to work 5 days per week on-site and travel across London as required.
