The Opportunity
A Local Authority in Nottinghamshire is seeking an experienced Housing Options Officer to join their team on a temporary basis. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive service, managing a varied caseload and making a direct impact on preventing and relieving homelessness.
You will play a key role in delivering high-quality housing advice and homelessness services, supporting applicants through all stages of the Homelessness Reduction Act.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of approximately 30–40 homelessness applications across prevention, relief and main Housing Duty
- Progress cases from initial triage through to Section 184 decisions
- Undertake comprehensive homelessness assessments in line with legislation
- Develop and issue Personalised Housing Plans (PHPs)
- Conduct detailed enquiries including: Eligibility, Homelessness or threatened homelessness, Priority need and Intentional homelessness
- Make Section 184 decisions, working independently where required
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records using a homelessness system
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and partner agencies
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 12–18 months’ experience working under the Homelessness Reduction Act
- Demonstrable experience of making Section 184 decisions
- Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation
- Comfortable working in a hybrid environment (minimum 2 days in the office)
