Our client is a well-established and growing construction business with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality projects across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced HR Manager to lead the HR function, supporting operational teams while driving recruitment and employee engagement across the business.
The Role
The HR Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the employee lifecycle, providing strategic and operational HR support across the organisation. This is a hands-on role requiring a strong HR generalist with proven recruitment experience, ideally gained within the construction, engineering, manufacturing, or related sectors.
You will work closely with senior management to attract, develop and retain talented employees while ensuring compliance with UK employment legislation and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Talent Acquisition
- Manage the end-to-end recruitment process across all departments.
- Develop recruitment strategies to attract high-quality candidates.
- Build strong relationships with hiring managers to understand workforce requirements.
- Liaise with recruitment agencies where required and manage supplier relationships.
- Coordinate interviews, assessments and offer processes.
- Support onboarding and induction programmes for new employees.
- Develop employer branding initiatives to attract skilled construction professionals.
HR Generalist Responsibilities
- Provide advice and guidance on all employee relations matters including disciplinary, grievance, capability and absence management.
- Ensure HR policies and procedures remain compliant with current employment legislation.
- Maintain employee records and HR systems.
- Support performance management and annual appraisal processes.
- Manage probation reviews and employee development plans.
- Lead employee engagement and wellbeing initiatives.
- Monitor HR metrics and provide management reports.
- Support succession planning and workforce development.
- Assist with organisational change and restructuring where required.
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with UK employment law and HR best practice.
- Support right-to-work checks and pre-employment screening.
- Maintain GDPR compliance relating to employee records.
- Ensure HR processes support relevant industry accreditations and audits.
About You
Essential
Previous experience as an HR Manager or Senior HR Advisor.
Strong HR generalist background.
Proven in-house recruitment experience.
Excellent knowledge of UK employment legislation.
Experience managing employee relations cases.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to work independently and prioritise a varied workload.
Excellent organisational and administration skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and HR systems.
Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
Experience within construction, engineering or a similar project-based environment.
CIPD Level 5 .
