HR & Payroll Assistant
Salary: £28,000 – £32,000

Are you looking to develop your career across HR and Payroll? We are looking for an organised and detail-focused HR & Payroll Assistant to provide essential administrative support across a busy HR function.
This is a varied role offering exposure to HR administration, payroll, learning and development, and the wider employee lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
HR Administration
- Provide day-to-day administrative support to the HR team.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in line with GDPR.
- Prepare HR documentation including contracts, letters and employee correspondence.
- Support onboarding and leaver processes.
- Update employee records for changes to contracts, hours, roles and personal details.
- Maintain absence and family leave records.
- Ensure HR files and records remain accurate and audit-ready.
Payroll Support
- Process payroll administration for new starters and leavers.
- Collate and check working hours, overtime and other payroll information.
- Ensure salary, contract and leave changes are accurately communicated to payroll.
- Assist with resolving payroll queries and discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate records to support monthly payroll processing.
Learning & Development
- Maintain employee training records and learning databases.
- Record training courses and employee completions.
- Support the coordination of training activities.
- Assist with training reports and monitoring mandatory training.
General HR Support
- Respond to HR queries professionally and promptly.
- Assist with HR reports, spreadsheets and management information.
- Support HR projects and initiatives.
- Handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
About You
We are looking for someone with:
- Previous experience in HR, Payroll or a relevant administrative role.
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
- Experience handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive, positive and professional approach.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
Desirable:
Experience using HR or Payroll systems.
Understanding of payroll processes and employment legislation.
Knowledge of HR administration, including contracts, family leave and employee records.
CIPD qualification or working towards one.
