Ceto Talent is representing a major Tier 1 civil engineering and construction contractor delivering work on the Sizewell C nuclear project in Suffolk.

We are recruiting 3 experienced HSW Advisors to support night-shift operations during the critical Enabling and Earthworks phase of this major UK nuclear construction programme.

The Sizewell C Nuclear Project

Sizewell C is a major new nuclear power station being constructed in Suffolk. The nuclear development will include two reactors and is based largely on the design of its sister nuclear project, Hinkley Point C.

A significant programme of enabling and civil engineering work is now underway at Sizewell C in preparation for the J0 milestone, which marks the foundational pour for Reactor 1 and the transition into the main nuclear construction phase.

Current Sizewell C activities include:

  1. Major earthworks and excavation
  2. Ground stabilisation and improvement
  3. Groundwater management and dewatering
  4. Sea defence improvements
  5. Piling and cranage operations
  6. Heavy plant and construction vehicle movements
  7. Preparation for the main nuclear island construction

Ceto Talent is representing a leading Tier 1 civil engineering contractor delivering a major package of enabling and earthworks on the Sizewell C nuclear project in Suffolk.

The Role

As Senior HSW Advisor, you will provide visible health, safety and wellbeing leadership across the Sizewell C night shift.

You will work closely with operational teams, the Night Duty Manager, supervisors, contractors, Sizewell C delivery teams and other HSW professionals to support the safe delivery of complex civil engineering and nuclear construction activities.

This is a site-based role requiring someone who can work independently, communicate confidently and respond effectively to emerging risks and events during night and weekend operations.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Communicate and support the implementation of the Sizewell C and project HSW strategy.
  2. Provide practical HSW guidance to construction teams, supervisors and contractors.
  3. Undertake risk-based inspections, site tours, audits and assurance activities.
  4. Support the planning and safe delivery of earthworks, piling, excavation, cranage and heavy-plant activities.
  5. Identify, assess and prioritise risks associated with Sizewell C construction activities.
  6. Review work package plans, task briefings and other relevant safety documentation.
  7. Support accident and incident investigations, including gathering witness accounts and preparing factual reports.
  8. Respond to emerging site events alongside the Duty Manager, HSW Lead and delivery teams.
  9. Promote a positive health, safety and nuclear safety culture across the Sizewell C workforce.
  10. Coach and support project management and operational teams in meeting HSW requirements.
  11. Support the communication of lessons learned across the nuclear construction project.
  12. Ensure effective communication and handover between the Sizewell C day and night teams.
  13. Maintain strong relationships with internal delivery teams, external contractors and wider nuclear project stakeholders.

Experience and Qualifications

We are interested in experienced HSE Advisors and HSW Advisors with a proven track record supporting major construction, civil engineering, infrastructure or other high-risk projects.

Previous nuclear construction experience would be highly relevant, particularly experience gained at Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C, Sellafield or another major UK nuclear site. However, direct nuclear experience is not essential where candidates can demonstrate strong, transferable construction HSE experience.

You should have:

▪️ NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 4, 5 or 6 in Occupational Health and Safety
▪️ Grad IOSH membership or actively working towards it
▪️ Manager-level CSCS card
▪️ Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation
▪️ Experience undertaking inspections, audits and incident investigations
▪️ Confidence engaging with construction teams and stakeholders at every level
▪️ Strong written communication and report-writing skills
▪️ Ability to influence, challenge and provide constructive feedback
▪️ Collaborative approach suited to a large, alliance-based nuclear project

Previous experience operating as a Senior HSE Advisor or Senior HSW Advisor is strongly preferred.

The initial contract will run for approximately 12 months. The client intends to appoint permanently within the HSW team following the contract period. The successful contractor may be considered for that permanent opportunity if they wish to continue with Sizewell C; otherwise, the client will recruit externally.
