HSE Director – Technical Services, Fit Out & Installation

We are looking for an experienced and influential HSE Director to join our senior leadership team based in Preston.

This is a strategic leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and driving the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental strategy across a diverse portfolio of technical services, fit out, and installation projects. Working closely with the Board and operational teams, you will foster a proactive safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the successful delivery of projects while protecting our people, clients, and the environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HSE professional who combines strategic vision with a practical, hands-on approach and has a strong track record within the construction, technical services, fit out, or installation sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental strategy in line with business objectives.

• Provide leadership and expert advice to the Board, senior management, and project teams on all HSE matters.

• Drive a positive behavioural safety culture throughout the organisation.

• Ensure full compliance with UK health, safety, and environmental legislation, industry standards, and client requirements.

• Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of HSE policies, procedures, and management systems.

• Monitor HSE performance through audits, inspections, investigations, and reporting, identifying opportunities for continual improvement.

• Lead investigations into incidents and near misses, ensuring effective corrective and preventative actions are implemented.

• Work collaboratively with operational and commercial teams to support the safe planning and delivery of projects.

• Manage relationships with clients, regulatory bodies, and external auditors.

• Lead, mentor, and develop the HSE team, promoting professional development and high performance.

• Ensure environmental sustainability initiatives are embedded within company operations and project delivery.

About You

You will be an experienced Health, Safety, and Environmental leader with extensive experience working within technical services, construction fit out, M&E, or specialist installation environments.

You will have:

• Proven experience in a senior HSE leadership role, ideally at Director or Head of HSE level.

• Strong knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation and best practice.

• Experience developing and implementing HSE management systems across multi-site operations.

• A proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cultural change.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and coaching skills.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Experience working with principal contractors, subcontractors, and client teams on complex projects.

• A collaborative leadership style with the confidence to challenge and influence at all levels.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent Level 6 Health & Safety qualification).

• Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH), or working towards chartered status.

• Environmental qualification (IEMA or equivalent) desirable.

• Lead Auditor qualification (ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001) advantageous.
