HV Commissioning Manager

 I am looking to source an HV Commissioning Manager to lead the safe planning, coordination and execution of high voltage commissioning activities on a major data centre construction project. Working as part of the project delivery team, you will manage the commissioning programme from pre-energisation through to final handover, ensuring all activities are delivered safely, compliantly and to programme. This role is ideal for someone with extensive experience in HV substations, data centres, critical infrastructure or utility projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all HV commissioning activities associated with the energisation of the data centre electrical infrastructure.
  • Develop, review and manage commissioning strategies, procedures and energisation plans.
  • Coordinate commissioning interfaces between the client, ICP/DNO, OEMs, EPC contractors and specialist commissioning teams.
  • Chair commissioning planning meetings and daily coordination sessions.
  • Ensure all switching schedules, isolation plans and energisation documentation are reviewed and approved.
  • Oversee witness testing, functional testing, protection testing and SAT activities.
  • Ensure commissioning is delivered in accordance with project specifications, client standards and statutory regulations.
  • Drive a proactive health, safety and quality culture throughout all commissioning activities.
  • Manage commissioning documentation including ITPs, RAMS, test packs, commissioning dossiers and handover records.
  • Identify commissioning risks and implement mitigation strategies to maintain programme.
  • Support project completion, snagging, energisation milestones and final client handover.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience as an HV Commissioning Manager on major infrastructure or data centre projects.
  • Strong background in commissioning HV electrical systems up to 132kV (experience above this advantageous).
  • Experience with substations, transformers, GIS/AIS switchgear, protection systems and power distribution.
  • Previous involvement in data centre, utility, renewable energy or transmission projects.
  • Excellent understanding of commissioning processes, energisation planning and permit-to-work systems.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple contractors and technical disciplines simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred).
  • Senior Authorised Person (SAP) experience highly desirable.
  • National Grid, DNO or ICP commissioning experience advantageous.
  • SMSTS or equivalent.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH (preferred).
  • Current ECS/CSCS card
