High Voltage Senior Authorised Person (HV SAP)

Role Summary

The High Voltage Senior Authorised Person (HV SAP) is responsible for the safe operation, control, and switching of high voltage electrical networks. The role ensures that all switching activities are carried out in compliance with company safety rules and statutory regulations while maintaining the integrity and reliability of the electrical network.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out high voltage switching operations on HV electrical distribution networks.
• Act as the Senior Authorised Person (SAP) responsible for issuing permits and ensuring safe isolation of HV systems.
• Plan, coordinate, and execute switching schedules for maintenance, commissioning, and fault response.
• Ensure all operations comply with electrical safety rules and industry regulations.
• Authorise and supervise personnel working on HV systems.
• Respond to faults and emergency situations on HV networks.
• Maintain accurate switching logs and documentation.
• Participate in risk assessments and method statements for HV works.

Essential Experience

• Proven experience as a High Voltage Senior Authorised Person (HV SAP).
• Demonstrated experience switching high voltage networks (typically 11kV–132kV or similar depending on organisation).
• Experience working within electrical distribution or power generation environments.
• Strong understanding of electrical safety rules and isolation procedures.

Essential Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering qualification (HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
• Authorisation as Senior Authorised Person (SAP) for high voltage systems.
• Relevant health and safety training (e.g., Safe Systems of Work, Risk Assessment).

Key Skills & Competencies

• High level of technical knowledge of HV electrical systems.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and network diagrams.
• Strong understanding of switching procedures and safety protocols.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills.
• Strong focus on safety and compliance.

Desirable

• Experience with network control operations.
• Experience with SCADA systems.
• Previous experience in utilities, renewable energy, or infrastructure projects.

Salary: £65,000 - £73,000 depending experience
