About the Role

We are partnering with a specialist M&E contractor delivering mechanical, HVAC, and building services projects across commercial, industrial, and critical operational environments throughout the UK. They are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical HVAC Manager to lead the technical, pre-construction, and delivery functions across their mechanical project portfolio.

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in both winning and delivering projects. You will oversee everything from initial surveys and tendering through design development, procurement, installation, commissioning, and final handover, ensuring all technical and commercial targets are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pre-Construction & Tendering: Review technical documents, conduct pre-tender surveys, define mechanical scopes, and build competitive tender costs covering plant, materials, labour, and subcontractors.

  • Technical Leadership: Provide high-level technical input across VRF/VRV, DX, chillers, AHUs, ventilation, heat recovery, boilers, pipework, refrigeration, and BMS interfaces.

  • Design & Constructability: Review proposed designs, identify technical omissions or coordination issues, and drive value engineering and alternative technical solutions.

  • Project Delivery: Mobilize, procure, and manage projects from award to completion, ensuring works are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget in live operational environments.

  • Commercial Management: Monitor expenditure, negotiate supplier and subcontractor pricing, manage variations, and protect gross margins against tender allowances.

  • Health, Safety & Compliance: Ensure full compliance with CDM regulations, client standards, and internal procedures, including the review of RAMS, permits, and specialist risk controls.

  • Client Engagement: Act as the primary technical lead for mechanical matters, attending client meetings, managing technical expectations, and cultivating long-term client relationships.

Skills & Experience

  • Extensive hands-on mechanical and HVAC contracting experience, including strong capabilities in pricing, tendering, and cost control.

  • In-depth technical knowledge of HVAC plant, equipment selection, design coordination, and system controls.

  • Proven track record of managing full project life cycles from pre-construction through to commissioning, handover, and final account.

  • Strong commercial acumen with experience evaluating subcontractor returns, managing variations, and handling procurement packages.

  • Sound awareness of CDM, RAMS, health and safety regulations, and working within live, critical operational environments.

  • Relevant qualifications such as an HNC, HND, or Degree in Mechanical/Building Services Engineering, alongside industry certifications like SMSTS, CSCS, or IOSH (Desirable).

  • Full UK driving licence.
