The Opportunity
Imperial Recruitment Group are delighted to be supporting a leading manufacturer in Leeming Bar with the appointment of an experienced Hygiene Manager.
This is a key leadership position within a large-scale manufacturing operation, responsible for ensuring the highest standards of hygiene, cleanliness and food safety are consistently maintained across the site.
The successful candidate will lead the hygiene function, develop and implement robust cleaning and sanitation standards, ensure compliance with food safety legislation and customer requirements, and drive a culture of continuous improvement across the manufacturing environment.
You will work closely with Production, Technical, Engineering, Quality and Health & Safety teams to ensure the site remains safe, compliant and consistently audit-ready.
Key Responsibilities

Lead, manage and develop the site's Hygiene Team, ensuring clear standards, accountability and high levels of performance.

Develop, implement and maintain comprehensive cleaning and hygiene schedules across the manufacturing facility.

Ensure all production areas, machinery, equipment, floors, structures and associated facilities are maintained to the required hygiene standards.

Oversee daily, weekly and scheduled deep-cleaning activities, ensuring cleaning is completed effectively and safely.

Ensure hygiene activities support compliance with HACCP, BRCGS, GMP, COSHH, food safety legislation and customer standards.

Maintain a strong "audit-ready every day" approach across the site.

Carry out regular hygiene inspections, audits and verification activities, identifying non-conformances and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.

Monitor environmental and microbiological hygiene results, identifying trends and investigating failures or recurring issues.

Lead root-cause investigations relating to hygiene failures, contamination risks, environmental results and customer complaints where appropriate.

Work closely with the Technical and Production teams to ensure effective release of equipment and production areas following cleaning.

Support the management of CIP and cleaning systems, ensuring processes are effective, validated and consistently followed.

Manage hygiene chemicals, equipment and consumables, ensuring appropriate stock levels, safe storage and full COSHH compliance.

Manage relationships with external hygiene, chemical, pest control and other relevant suppliers and contractors.

Develop and maintain hygiene procedures, SOPs, risk assessments, cleaning instructions and associated documentation.

Ensure all Hygiene Team members receive appropriate induction, training, refresher training and ongoing development.

Monitor hygiene KPIs and identify opportunities to improve standards, efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Manage hygiene budgets and identify opportunities to reduce chemical, labour and operational costs without compromising food safety.

Promote a positive food safety and hygiene culture across the entire site.
About You
The successful candidate will have previous experience in a Hygiene Manager, Hygiene Supervisor, Hygiene Team Leader or similar senior hygiene position within a food, beverage, FMCG or other high-care manufacturing environment.
You will be a confident people leader who can establish high standards, hold teams accountable and work collaboratively with other departments.
Essential Experience

Previous hygiene management or senior supervisory experience within food, beverage or FMCG manufacturing.

Experience managing and developing hygiene teams.

Strong understanding of food manufacturing hygiene and sanitation practices.

Working knowledge of HACCP, BRCGS, GMP and COSHH.

Experience developing and managing cleaning schedules and hygiene procedures.

Experience with hygiene audits, inspections and corrective actions.

Understanding of environmental monitoring, microbiological testing and hygiene verification.

Experience managing cleaning chemicals and external suppliers.

Strong understanding of Health & Safety within a manufacturing environment.

Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
