Are you passionate about supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse? Do you have the skills, experience, and commitment to help individuals experiencing high-risk situations rebuild their lives safely and confidently?
We are seeking a dedicated Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) to join a specialist support service in Coventry. This is an opportunity to work directly with survivors of domestic abuse, providing advocacy, crisis intervention, risk management, and practical support within a multi-agency framework.
Working alongside police, safeguarding teams, housing providers, health services, and other partner organisations, you will play a vital role in helping survivors navigate complex situations and access the support they need.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of high-risk domestic abuse cases, delivering person-centred support and advocacy.
- Conduct comprehensive risk and needs assessments and develop robust safety plans.
- Represent and advocate for survivors at Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC) and other safeguarding forums.
- Support service users through criminal and civil justice processes.
- Work collaboratively with statutory, voluntary, and community organisations to achieve positive outcomes.
- Provide practical assistance relating to housing, benefits, health services, legal matters, and other support needs.
- Maintain accurate case records, reports, and monitoring information.
- Deliver outreach support across community locations and partner settings.
- Contribute to awareness-raising activities, workshops, and training sessions.
- Ensure all work is delivered in line with safeguarding, confidentiality, GDPR, and health and safety requirements.
About You
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
Essential Experience
- IDVA qualification (or working towards one) and/or substantial relevant experience supporting survivors of domestic abuse.
- At least three years' experience working within domestic abuse, social care, welfare, safeguarding, or a related field.
- Experience supporting vulnerable adults and children.
- Experience conducting risk assessments and safety planning.
- Experience working within multi-agency environments.
- Experience delivering advocacy, advice, and support services.
Essential Skills
- Excellent communication, advocacy, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong report writing and record-keeping abilities.
- Ability to manage a complex and demanding caseload.
- Sound IT and administrative skills.
- Ability to work independently and make informed decisions under pressure.
- Strong understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding principles.
Knowledge
- Understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on individuals, families, and communities.
- Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practice.
- Understanding of risk management and victim safety planning.
- Awareness of criminal and civil justice processes relating to domestic abuse.
- Understanding of equality, diversity, inclusion, and anti-discriminatory practice.
Additional Requirements
- Enhanced DBS check.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
- Flexibility to participate in an out-of-hours rota and occasional weekend working.
