Import & Export Coordinator

Location: Barry, South Wales
Salary: Up to £33,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent | Full-Time
Hours: Monday to Friday | 38 hours per week | Typically 8:00am-4:00pm, with flexibility around start and finish times

Yolk Recruitment are supporting a growing engineering business with the recruitment of an Import & Export Coordinator to join their team in Barry.

This is a fantastic opportunity as the company is also planning further expansion, including the development of its own newly built facility in Barry, offering an excellent opportunity to join a close-knit team and develop your responsibilities as the business grows.

Unlike a traditional import/export role, this position involves coordinating the international movement of specialist tools, engineering equipment and consumables to vessels across the globe. Shipments can range from individual toolboxes to full shipping containers, travelling by both sea and air freight.

This is what you'll be doing

As Import & Export Coordinator, you'll take responsibility for coordinating international shipments, preparing accurate customs and shipping documentation, and maintaining visibility of specialist equipment moving between vessels and overseas locations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating import and export shipments of specialist tools, engineering equipment, consumables and materials to support marine repair projects worldwide.
  • Preparing and processing accurate shipping and customs documentation, ensuring the correct commodity codes, customs values, countries of origin and procedure codes are applied.
  • Liaising with nominated freight forwarders to coordinate international shipments via sea and air freight, ensuring goods reach the required destination within project timescales.
  • Managing the receipt, preparation, packing and timely dispatch of equipment and materials, often responding to urgent or last-minute customer requirements.
  • Tracking inbound and outbound shipments, maintaining accurate records of equipment locations, movements and expected returns.
  • Coordinating the movement and return of specialist and hired equipment, including items that may transfer between multiple cruise ships and remain overseas for extended periods.
  • Monitoring customs clearances, identifying potential delays or documentation issues and working with relevant parties to resolve queries, holds or missing information.
  • Maintaining accurate stock and inventory records, supporting equipment control, warehouse organisation and efficient use of available storage space.
  • Maintaining accurate import/export records, shipment trackers and supporting documentation using Excel and relevant customer portals.
  • Ensuring all customs and shipping documentation is correctly completed, checked and maintained in accordance with applicable import/export procedures and trade regulations.
  • Supporting improvements to shipping processes, equipment tracking and documentation control as the business continues to grow.

The experience you'll bring

  • Previous experience within Import/Export Coordination, Shipping, Freight Forwarding, International Logistics or a similar position.
  • A good understanding of customs documentation, commodity codes, import/export procedures and international shipping requirements.
  • Experience coordinating sea freight, air freight or both.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple shipments, changing priorities and time-sensitive requirements.
  • Good attention to detail, particularly when preparing customs paperwork, tracking shipments and maintaining accurate records.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Excel to manage documentation, shipping information and equipment records.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with freight forwarders, internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • A practical, proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to work independently and remain organised in a busy, reactive environment.
  • A positive, team-focused attitude and willingness to support colleagues within a small, collaborative business.
  • Experience within engineering, manufacturing, marine services or equipment logistics would be advantageous, but isn't essential.

And this is what you'll get in return

  • Salary up to £33,000 per annum
  • Monday to Friday working hours - 38 hours per week
  • Typically 8:00am-4:00pm, with flexibility around start and finish times
  • 28 days' annual leave, increasing with length of service
  • Company pension scheme
  • Free on-site parking
  • Exposure to worldwide shipping operations, international customs processes and equipment logistics
  • A friendly, close-knit working environment where your contribution will make a real difference
  • Opportunity to develop your responsibilities as the company expands and establishes its new facility in Barry
